Upset with Jayco

We have a 2014 248RBS. Was told I needed to check the roof twice a year. We thought it would be nice to have a ladder to do this. Wife said would be nice to have a foldaway asitist handle. Dealer told us we had to call Jayco. Wife made the call with the VIN. We were told that we could not add a laddr or the door handle. I told her several other models same floor plan has these two opitions. She called back, we were told in no uncertain terms would not work and if we added it would avoid the warranty.

You did the right thing by calling. Obviously don't want to add something that the trailer walls can't support, thus creating an unsafe condition.

You did the right thing by checking before adding it... But how can you be mad at Jayco? You bought a trailer that doesn't have a ladder. You want to add equipment that isn't suited for your trailer... That's not Jayco's fault...

Both of those require backing in the siding. If you don't have backing then you can't add the options...simple as that. I know for the JayFlight line most floor plans had the option for ladder, but can't be certain in the Swift line.

upset at jayco

This just goes along with the backers not being there idea. We have an Jay flight33 bhts and even with the TV backer sticker in place there is no backer in there with in 10" of the sticker. Being fiberglass sides there is no way to put one in there.

Sounds like Jayco saved you from doing something that could cause you to fall. I can see a new sticker in the future that says "do not add a ladder here".

When I purchased my 33 RLDS I wanted to have a ladder installed and it was a no go due to not having the backers. So with that good news I went to the Home Depot and purchased the most compact ladder I could find so I could sweep my slides off before closing them at the CG.

My "09 JayFlight 24 RKS didn't come with one either. Others like the G2 did, I think. Dealer said it had to do with the structure built into the back end of the TT to take the load of not only the ladder but also the weight of yer butt on it. I only go up there 2X year and lay a extension ladder carefully against the roof to do what has to be done. However I carry a cheap Wagner aluminun step ladder in the forward thru compartment to wipe all the crap and moisture off the slide before I pull it in.

Our 33 RLDS came with a ladder. The other one we seen at the dealer also had the ladder. Makes it so much easier, and safer, to get up there. I hated using a regular ladder with our hybrid we had before the Jayco.

Yes, mine came with a ladder as well. I used it to install the vent hoods and to inspect the roof already.

Yes, first mod was transferring the vent hoods from the previous camper as well as inspecting the roof the first week we had it !!

Sorry, I can't see being upset with Jayco. It was how your trailer was optioned when ordered.

Look at it this way; it's like being upset with Ford when buying a car with manual windows, and they did not install the wiring so you could add the power window switch.

+1. Well said. If you wanted to add a ladder down the road, you should have asked if it was possible to do so. Not Jayco's fault, and as they say, hindsight is 20/20.

IMHO a ladder is really not that big a deal anyway, I have a ladder, and I'm trying to figure out how NOT to use it. I have a walkable roof, but it doesn't feel all that stable, so I would like to limit the time I spend up there as much as possible...

By no means are my upset with Jayco I just don't understand how a dealer can order a unit with every option avaliable with the exception of the 100.00 roof ladder option.
I guess if falls in line with someone going to McDonalds and ordering a super sized value meal then say"I'd like a diet Coke with that".
Like it's really going to make a difference at that point.

I think it was common to not have ladders on many trailers as roofs have not always been constructed as "walk-a-ble" roofs. And there are folks that will never walk on any roof to begin with. My ladder is an easy climb on the roof but not so easy come down. It's on a corner with nothing to hold on as you turn around and look for that first step. I don't mind it but I do know people that would have to call 911 to get back off the roof.
