Vent Covers Needed for Storage

I am a newbie and this will be the first time I will be storing in the cold Montana winters. What at a minimum do I need for all vent covers? Any advice is greatly appreciated!

cover them. Fridge,furnace,HW or get a complete cover. I think I am going to get one

Thanks for the advice. I have seen pros and cons for buying a complete cover so am not sure on that yet.

Welcome to the forum. Many of us use the Maxxaire or equivalent vent covers. You can leave them open without fear of rain coming in.

yes it is a coin flip but I think the disappointment with covers lies mostly with a poor fitting cover or one that is loose. Also sharp edges need to be addressed before the cover is installed. I just think it will be easier than sealing up all the vents every year.

I think he is referring to blocking snow from getting in the fridge furnace and HW vents. At least that is what I assumed

The covers I mentioned are just for the air vents, such as the one in the bathroom that has the fan in it. I do not cover the other openings such as the frig or furnace vent, but I do not have to deal with Montana snows either!

Thanks for the clarification. I do have the maxxaire bathroom vent cover. I was wanting to know when storing for months as a time and if I do not have a complete cover, what covers do I need to have? I'm assuming at least an air conditioner cover, wheel covers, etc. Anything else for these cold and long Montana winters?

You don't mention what type or model rig you have so what works for a PU might not be right for a MH.

Most ac's have a plastic cover already so you are good there. As for the frig, furnace, and so forth, I never worry about them. What I would worry about is the amount of snow/ice that builds up on the roof. If you have over a foot of accumulation I would consider removing some. But do not scrap it down to the roof deck as the membranes are very thin and tear/cut really easily.

As far as the fridge, water heater , heater doors you could purchase this insulation called reflectix bubble insulation you can buy at lowes you can cut it to size and line the inside of the access panels then purchase a cover for the a/c unit then winterize you should be set

I use white plastic to cover the fridge, water heater and furnace vents, but more to keep insects out than snow.

Get lots of snow here. No need for covers like I said. More problems can be caused by blocking off vent covers.

How do you figure?

If you seal WH etc. covers tightly I can imagine trapped condensation from the freeze/thaw cycle would cause problems long before a little snow or rain blowing into them.

I prefer to cover my entire RV. It sits for several months without moving during the winter, so why not protect it the best you can? You can drive through the storage yard I'm in, and it is pretty easy to tell which units get covered, and which ones don't. With the full cover, I can leave my roof vents open while it is in bed for the winter.

We use "MaxAir" vents. Work well. Can be left open, without any problems.
