Vinyl Flooring cracking

Has anyone dealt with their vinyl laminate cracking due to weather extremes (40 degrees one day and -40 below the next day). How do you fix the flooring? If I replace the laminate do I have to take out the sofa and sink areas? Looking for any advice or help. Thanks in advance.

I had this issue in our old 5er. I cut around the perimeter and laid new vinyl down. I also glued it completely, I was told that it won't happen again if I did that.

I can't say how it's holding up because we sold the trailer 3 weeks after I fixed it.

I put a floating laminate floor in mine. Cut out all the vinyl.

We experienced extreme temp fluctuations last month and I didn't give it a thought. Today I went out to put something in the trailer and found my flooring split open like it was being gutted. Very interested in hearing any words of advice folks have to offer on how to replace.

Had to replace my entire vinyl flooring over 5 years ago do to moisture damage, and yes, the best way is to cut the old vinyl out around the inside perimeter (not under cabinets, walls, etc..)......, you may also have bring-up some of the carpeting and re-tac it over the new vinyl. Over the years Jayco has gone from gluing, not gluing, back to gluing the vinyl down. My replacement vinyl was not glued with the thinking it will allow for some movement for temp expansion/retraction. I haven't had any issues with splitting.

To hide the new vinyl perimeter cut edge at the cabinet bases, inside walls, etc., 1/4 round was used ....,

I used a "pergo" like product that floats on-top of a very thin layer of plastic sheeting. The laminate was also very thin, like 5mm if I recall. It came in 6 inch x 5 foot lengths. It was a toung and grove fit, but it look several hours to cut each piece to fit to all the various turns and shapes, unlike a roll of vinyl that you cut to the perimeter as you go.

I did wind up going back around with a 1/4 round moulding to finish off the look

Several hours of work, but it was worth not worrying about it splitting again with the wild temp swings we have here in Colorado

Wow, walking in and seeing that would sure take the wind out of anybody's sails.

We have had some unusually wide temperature swings here in Michigan this winter as well..., checked my TT earlier today (weekly mouse trap inspection) and so far my floor is holding it's own.

I have a spit of a couple inches. Repaired easily with Liquid Nail Glue. I thought we dropped something on floor. Not the case.
A real eye opener for me.

The reason I went out there was to take the new inverter we've been talking about out to store it 'til Spring. You're right, the excitement of the new inverter wore right off when I saw the floor. Oh well, that is the nature of the beast. Just an opportunity to make it that much more our own. :-)

I like the pics you posted on your floor, good job, looks great. Thanks Bob,

Shawn

My 26bh looks like someone took a box cutter and went from end to end, slicing it up. I am thinking about a laminate floor, just don't know if I'll have the time.

Has anyone contacted insurance about there floor yet? Just curious what their reply was

We briefly thought of laminate, but with a slide didn't figure it would be thin enough. The first thing I thought of was the insurance, and the fact that we didn't renew it after the settled with us on a total from hail damage. You can barely notice the damage so we bought it back. We failed to re-insure with existing damage. Bonehead move on our part.

Split floor repaired

Insurance will not cover damage from extreme cold. Here are the pics of the new flooring. NOT a DIY project, I paid, but I really like the results.

Almost all RV manufactures perimeter glue the flooring down.. they say it is a weight saving issue BS it is cost.. and that is what causes the cracking.. When repalcing make sure they glue the entire floor..

Hey there Seann 45

We glued the entire floor. My installer agreed with you.

Unhappy Yet another Jayco Flooring Rip

I ran into same problem on my a 2008 Jayco 28BHS trailer. While trailer was locked/stored for winter the vinyl floor ripped/cracked from front bed all the way to the back bathroom. When I contacted Jayco they gave standard response that they offer a two year limited warranty and defects in material and workmanship are not covered after that period. Based on number similar postings on owner forums, it's pretty obvious that this is a case of either improperly installing the flooring or selecting a product that isn't suitable for a trailer. It's a shame, I'm guessing if Jayco had spent $50 on higher quality flooring, I wouldn't be looking at an estimated $1500-$2000 repair bill to replace the floor.

I'm not so sure it can all be blamed on Jayco. I may be naïve, but I think they've been trying over the years to find the right combination of product and install method. Based on our installers advice, we chose glued down entirely with a fiberglass backed vinyl. Time will tell if he is smarter than Jayco. Our install was only $700.00, found the vinyl for $0.99/sq. ft. Be sure to find an honest private contractor and get a good rate on your product.

If you haven't already, check it out. We love it.

We just discovered the exact same issue with a crack right inside the front door of our Jayflight 29 FBS. We purchased our trailer over this past winter and have not even had a chance to use it yet. Right now i slapped down a nice strip of duct tape to keep it from getting worse but I know with this being right inside the door this is a temporary and very ugly fix.

I have thought about putting in a thin wood laminate (this was going to be a project a couple years down the road but I guess it has moved up on the priority list). Does anyone have suggestions on what to use, I assume the floating tongue and groove type would be the easiest to install with a 1/4 round trim to hide the edges.

Any suggestions or recommendations?
