W/D hitch with sway control

I just bought a 2013 Jayco used and I am looking at Equal-i-zer 90001000 Equalizer Hitch or Equal-i-zer 90001200 Equalizer Hitch with sway control. the 1200 is a heavier hitch. My GVW is 8700lbs. Which would work best? Anyone have one of these hitches? How well do they control sway? I am well versed in 5thj wheel hitches but not W/D hitches.

Your ball weight is the deciding factor, not necessarily the GVW. I just took delivery on a new 5'er, and I've got a perfectly good Reese load distributing anti-sway hitch sitting in the garage gathering dust. PM me if you want to discuss!

Either hitch model would work for this TT. Several years ago I had this same question and both the 10,000 or the 12,000 lb hitch was questioned. I chose to go with the 12,000 lb and It was a good choice. If in the future you decide to upgrade to a larger heavier trailer you would have the extra capacity in the hitch.

This hitch design does a great job of weight distribution and sway control. I would go for the 12,000 lb.

I agree, go with the 1,200lb rated WDH.

Based on a recommended 13% to 15% loaded tongue weight range (of actual TT loaded gross weight) the 1,200lb rated WDH (minimum) will provide the required support for loaded tongue weights that are most often seen with a 8,700lb GVWR TT.

With any WDH proper adjustment is "key" to insure optimum TV handling of the TT.

To eliminate any confusion the hitch is rated at 1,200 lb. hitch weight and 12,000 lb. towing.

I would tend to agree that the 1,000lb rated WDH would be ideal for the 264BHW (6,500lb GVWR).
