Wall mount tv: screw length?
I have a 2018 Jayco Jay Flight SLX. The wall mount I bought comes with 3 inch screws which seem far too long. What size screws should I be using for the bedroom wall. The wall has a backing plate with the "television bracket location" sticker. The mount uses 3 screws. Also, how am I supposed to know how much weight the wall can handle? TV is 6.9lb flat screen, mount is about the same.

The 3" screws are intended for a home wall mount into a 2x4" wall stud. If your bedroom wall a divider wall you can look at the end of the wall to determine the max length of the screw. Usually a #10 or #12 screw 1" long is sufficient. Jayco walls are usually 2x2" construction.

Personally I'd go a little longer than 1". By the time you account for the bracket thickness and the wall material, which offers next to nothing as far as screw holding strength, you'll have about 3/4" of screw into the stud. I think for my Morryde mount I used 6 1-1/2" lag screws which were provided in the kit. Just another opinion.

Get a stud finder and make sure that the sticker is in the right place before drilling. You will have to compute the length of the screws and purchase the length. Many years ago, someone I know put 5 screws in his first motorhome, only to find them sticking out the sidewall about 1/2 inch.
I, I mean he was very embarrassed.

Yes, definitely verify backer location, mine was off by about 3 inches.
As far as the screws on the outside, you just tell people it's a hat hook for your taller friends. I say that because for 20 years I used to install car audio and there was an installer at a neighboring location that used 3" screws to mount speakers in the rear cab corners of an S10. The customer came back asking him to explain how he was hanging his hat on the corner of his truck

Just for the benefit of others, agree that wall thickness needs to be determined--Jayco needs to a better job of letting everyone know what the overall wall thickness (where TV mount location is identified) is. In my case I installed a Amazon Basics wall mount for a 22--55 inch TV using (4) 1" wood screws. I assumed wall is framed with 2X2, but it's plywood backing so difficult to tell plywood thickness. Drilled very small 1" pilot hole successfully, probably could go with 1.5" screws. Our TV is TLC 28", Roku ready and is light so the mount holds it fine, we remove it when traveling, so far no issues. For DVDs we use our laptop but also have a small DVD player which works well.

The main TV mount in our 2019 SLX shares the bathroom wall and I was able to measure the thickness.IIRC it was about 1 1/2" thick.
