wall repair question

I have a 2015 Jayflight SLX that had a small leak in the front along the top edge of the roof, so snow and rain that was sitting on there was dripping in between the metal siding and the wall, probably for a couple of years undetected. I just discovered it when I noticed that the interior wall was really soft. I ripped it open, dried it out completely, and fixed the leaking spot on the roof. The very thin plywood that is right under the wallpaper is kind of rotted away as shown in this photo. I was thinking of just using Genesis wallpaper on the whole wall to make it look nice again, but not attempting to repair the plywood because it's so thin that it does not really appear to add any structural integrity anyway. Is that a bad idea? Thanks in advance for any advice.

The wood needs to be replaced or at least stabilized with resin. It is part of the structural strength of the wall. Please don’t just put a bandaid over it.

That looks bad and hard to repair/look good again. I would take a sharp knife and cut out a square big enough to remove the rotten wood...if there is a good stud close by, cut over that for nailing the repair pc. Remove all rotten wood and clean/prime the area. Glue in some exact size thickness pcs of wood to support the cut line and for nailing the repair pc....I'm assuming there was insulation, make sure that's fully dry and put back. Find a pc of exact size material cut and install it. Use small screws or a nail gun to fasten new pc and old paneling...put the hammers down for this job You should caulk the joint and smooth with putty knife....ready for wallpapering with something similar or go nuts on an accent wall

Thanks for the hints Glamper64, it sounds like I need to put more work into this than I had been planning!

You're welcome and yes it's some work to repair it properly. Gathering/cutting the right materials needed and prep is half the battle. Once you've completed the job it's like bring on the next one, I can do it!

The mental struggle is usually knowing you are making a bigger problem in terms of size to fix it properly. Cutting away good stuff to get to a stud is counterintuitive but actual makes this easier.

Don't over think it @6
Actually on a second thought, over thinking steps and the next steps is very important mentally or is it just getting old?

Thanks all, any suggestions on what to use as the wallboard? It looks like 1/8" plywood was the original but I don't really see that for sale around here.

Lowe's project board area usually has 1/8 or also luan.
