Want to Replace Door Latch/Lock

I want to replace my front door latch/lock. I have two questions:

1.) How do I know which ones will fit my door?

2.) What other latches do you recommend? Keyless?

I would love to replace all of the "slam latches" on my camper as well. Hopefully someone will chime in with a solution. First camper I've had with this style of lock and I don't like them..

What is a slam latch?

Are you wanting to replace the entire latch or just the locks?

A slam latch is used on the basement doors and they engage simply by slamming the door closed. Unlike the style where you have to turn the knobs to keep the doors closed.

Todd, I'm curious about this subject myself.
I'm not clear as to why locks and latches that are bought off the internet would be any more secure than those that were installed at the factory.

Here are the reasons I am replacing the locks on my trailer:

1.) The locks on the basement doors use the same key (CH751) that is used in almost every RV manufactured in American and in other industries too (found out it is also common with some generators and other latches).

2.) The locks on the basement doors are HORRIBLE quality. In the first week I found the key openings/apertures were denting, which over time make it a P.I.T.A. to insert the key. So when I upgrade the basement door locks for security reasons, I'm also going to a different type of lock that uses a different type of key to make inserting the key much easier.

3.) The door latch (on mine at least) has two locks, one of which opens with a universal key available from any dealer. The other tends to be less standard. I want to replace this lock for this primary reason, but I am also researching whether or not a keyless entry is any safer or easier to use. Ideally, I would like a lock that is better all around, and I know they make several different replacement latches/locks for the door, but I don't know if they are universal, and if not, which ones work and which ones don't. The key opening/aperture on my door lock is also denting easily.

I replaced the key locks on my doors that use a 751 key with combi-cam locks. You can latch and unlatch without locking them and you can set the 3 digit combination to anything you want. Been using for over two years and never have a problem. The main door lock (deadbolt and paddle locks) are opened by the same key. The dealer master key only opens the paddle lock. All of the replacement locks are pretty much setup the same way. Even the electronic locks have the same key setup.

Regarding the Slam Latches on the compartment doors, on my new 2015 27DSLR are already hard to open as the lock quality is terrible. The one compartment that does not have the slam-latch (key#751) is a much better quality. I too, need to replace these locks with a higher quality lock set.................Who is in charge of quality testing at Jayco?
