Watch for Buzzards

I have a 2018 Jayco Jayflight 29RLDS. Hard 2 roofs put on in the last 4 months. Jayco paid for the first, dealer paid for the second because they screwed it up. Had just got it back last of January. Walked outside Friday morning 3 buzzards were on my roof. Ran them off. Damage was done to lap sealant on plumbing, skylights, antenna, ladder and corners. Looks like the roof membrane wasn't damaged. Took pictures and contacted my insurance. Waiting on them. Also called animal control. Buzzards are federally protected. Goggle this. These birds love RV roofs. Lucky they didn't do more damage. I have an Owl on a pole one end and hawk on a pole at the other and I placed mirrors on the roof, Also made effigy of a dead buzzard and laid on the roof. The damage really broke my heart.

Last summer were at a local lake and they did 2k in damage on our 1 yo pontoon boat seats! Insurance wouldn't cover it said that was considered animal chewing or gnawing.

I think I can see a Farmer's insurance company commercial in your future. Sorry about the damage but that's the strangest thing I have heard of in a long time.

It appears to be a somewhat common thing. I've read of several comments on a fishing forum where the buzzards love to eat wiper blades and body side moulding off of tow vehicles in the ramp parking lots. Buzzards are on the protected species list as well IIRC, so.....

It's just the black headed buzzards smaller than the turkey vulture with the red. There damage is increasing more and more every year. They are a very destructive bird! Arkansas has had a problem with them for several years now and getting worse.

We have a rifle range right next to our RV. The wife and I are always target shooting. A couple more shots wouldn't even be noticed.

Protected? OK!
Endangered? I doubt it.

Anybody know what buzzards taste like?

Now that's funny right there because I thought I was the only one that said that!
I've never heard anyone else say it! Lmao!

Take some powered fly bait, you can find it at TSC, Farm and Fleet, etc, stores, pour some in a pie tin, pour some coke on it and clean them off the roof in the dark so nobody will be any wiser. Trust me, that stuff is like the grim reaper. They won't make it 2' from that tin, and neither will anything else that comes in contact with it.

Around here it stems from predators getting to your livestock. I’m all good with Mother Nature and her creatures as long as she doesn’t come for me or mine. At that juncture the rules change.

That would be a great idea, but there's way too many of them here.

Do you mean vultures? We have thousands of vultures in central Texas but they don’t attack RVs. They crap on them ( and everything else) and it’s an amazing black mess, but they stay soaring on high until they see carrion. When they rest it’s usually in trees far from people.

If your going to Everglades National Park and intend on visiting the " Royal Palm" area --there are signs warning about vultures doing damage to vehicles. As I pulled into the parking area I was amassed at the number of " buzzards " sitting on ever vehicle in the lot. Some vehicle had use blue traps to cover their windshields. The buzzards like to eat the rubber of the windshield wiper blades, and anything else on the vehicle that has " neoprene" type texture. I would assume that RV rubber roofs could be an attractive target. The blue tarps on the windshield did seem to help some, but the amount of " buzzards " present was amazing to me.
