Turns on and off by itself. First thing check and make sure you haven't ran out of gas.

Listen for sounds. As if it's attempting to light, does it light and then goes out, or does it stay lit? Does it have an electric heating element?

Your pilot light may have gone out if it is manual lighting try re-lighting it. If it keeps doing it or hard to light clean it out with some canned air and gentle! brushing.

Look up issue on search function in gold bar above or watch some youtubes.

If it's DSI and your heating with gas, you need to leave the switch on until your ready to turn it off. Should cycle on and off to keep your water hot. If it's not, check fuel, brush the igniter/fuel jet tubes and make sure it dry.
