Water heater/Electrical issue?

I have a 2006 Jay Flight 27 bh. There is an on/off switch on the water heater as well as an on/off switch on the wall. Whenever the trailer is plugged in and the switch on the water heater is on, you can hear the water heater heating up the water, regardless whether the wall switch is on or off. Is the switch on the wall bad?

I would say no. Just how it’s wired. My rig has two switches for the water pump. One in the control panel and the other in the wet bay. If I turn it on in the bay, my switch inside does nothing.

So what's the purpose of having a wall switch then?

So you can turn it on from inside. The outside one just happens to be the master and the inside one is the slave.

So what you're saying is that if the switch on the water heater is off, then I should be able to turn it on from the switch on the wall?

Well I can't. I have to go to the water heater and turn the switch on to get it to work. The switch inside does nothing but lite up when flipped on. Any suggestions?

The Suburban water heater in our Greyhawk also has an interior wall switch and a second on the water heater outside. The outside switch turns on the electric heating element. The inside switch ignites the propane burner for heating water.

You mentioned not what WH you have, but it seems to me something is not hooked up right. Is the switch at the WH a DIY add on? Get the electric schematics on line and check it out accordingly. Control of the WH should be from the control panel for gas and electric, plus there should be a dsl light for if the WH fails to lite. Then you have to reset at the control panel. The switch by the WH can only be for when you have to work on the unit to work safely.

It is an Atwood water heater. No it doesn't look like an add on switch at the water heater. I'll check out the wiring schematics
