Water heater making noise

Hi Guys,

Just came back from a nice Kirk Creek campground (CA). The first day I had an issue with the water heater which was making some smoke - the problem was a spider net in the gas tube.

I cleaned it and all appears to be more less OK, but when I close the back door, it makes some louder noise. Is this normal?

Thanks!

I would check for places where the exhaust baffle is touching the metal of the door and see if you can create a bit of clearance. If you latch the door does it still make the noise?

That sounds like it is starving for oxygen. It would be nice if you could see the flame with the door closed.

Can you check the tube to make sure there are no other insect homes, especially where the small mixer vents are.

Definitely not burning right when the door is closed. Sounds a bit like when wind is blowing on a camp stove. I assume this is a new phenomena, on an older TT.

When I clean my gas tube, I also take high volume of air and blow through the heat exchange tube. There might be other spider webs that you cannot see, restricting the hot exhaust flow.

I would not start off by changing the air/fuel mix.

I do not ever recall hearing that high pitch sound when my WH is operating. Might just be the phone or my memory.

Thanks, Guys. I will check the points you mentioned above in two weeks when I am camping again. I sent an email to Dometic, but they sent me to a service technician (no surprise).

Thanks!

The black suiting on the grill when closed should tell you something. Not enough oxygen in the fuel mixture. make sure the baffle on the burner is open enough first, but pay attention to what is being blocked when you close the cover, as that when the noise starts.

The black stuff on the grill is from before I cleaned the spider web. I will investigate this further when I camp the next time. Thanks Guys!
