Water Heater when Using Gravity Fill

When I fill my fresh water tanks using the Gravity Fill, does this also fill the water heater? Or does the water heater get filled once I turn on the water pump?

I have a 2017 Jayco Jayflight 28BHBE

When you turn on the water pump... SO DON"T TURN ON THE WATER HEATER UNTIL IT'S FULL OF WATER in other words NOT UNTIL AFTER YOU'VE RUN WATER THROUGH THE HOT WATER SIDE OF THE FAUCETS TO LET THE AIR OUT OF THE HOT WATER TANK.

As you are filling your fresh water tank you should fill the water heater. This allows for maximum fresh water capacity on arrival.

Check and make sure the bypass valves are turned to the water heater.

Check and make sure the drain valves are closed, hot, cold and fresh water tank. You may have more drains in a larger unit, mine only has 2 plus fresh water tank.

Turn on pump, open hot water tap on sink. When air stops coming out let a a little water run out to flush anything left over in the water heater. I also open and flush out all other hot and cold water taps, shower, toilet.. This way you don't have to use water from your fresh water system to "prime" the water heater and lines.

Very last, as mentioned before, is to test the water heater. If you light it or turn it on dry it will burn out.

PS. if you have flushed the heater and lines very much you may want to dump the few gallons out of the holding tank to get more capacity. Most like to "start" the black tank with a small amount of water. Depending on tank size a couple of gallons up to whatever your model needs.

Adding to what's already been said, it will take a few minutes for the pump to fill the water heater. You'll know it's full when the hot side tap you have open goes from spitting to a full stream. Close the tap when the heater is full and the pump should stop, assuming there isn't something else open.
