Water Line Heat Tape - Preferences?

I am working to get my trailer winterized and my search for heat tape for the water line has lead me to a decision between the two basic types and I wanted to ask for opinions on them.

There is the basic type with a thermostat that turns it on and off and the self regulating type that adjusts heat output based on temperature.

Anyone want to make a recommendation?

If you are winterizing it and adding the proper antifreeze, why install heat tapes anyways? Are you planning on using it for the winter or are you storing it?

If you are living in the trailer you might consider filling the holding tank every few days rather than fight with heat tapes.

Thanks for the replies but I need to clarify my situation some to see if that helps.

First, I am living in my trailer and will need to do so through the winter. Second, I have a long section of exposed grey tank drain line that I would like to protect in some way and I did not think that just insulation would be enough. I have asked specifically about this line in another post.

So, my question still stands - for those who have used heat tapes - do you have a preference between the thermostat controlled ones and the self regulating ones?

Spring for the "PIRIT" heated water hose you can get it for around $120.00. http:// http://www.pirithose.com/product.php Heat tapes aren't cheap and you know this will do the job.

As to the sewer line I would buy a piece of 4" pvc pipe and put the sewer hose inside and then wrap it with pipe insulation. What you will need to worry about is your valves unless they are enclosed.

Skirting the trailer would also keep it a lot warmer. I always liked the heat tapes with the thermostat..
