Water Tank Straps

Has anyone else had issues with the straps that hold the fresh water tank snapping the head off the self-tapping screw that Jayco is using?

I first noticed it the other week when DW and I were walking past the fridge you could hear what sounded like a knock on the door. So I opened the door and no one was there and I heard it again when she walked past the fridge so I took a look under the trailer to find two of the straps hanging down. Upon further inspection I noted the heads to the some of the self-tapping screws had come off with the screws in place. I was able to fix this myself after a trip to the hardware store.

Are you talking about the clamps that hold it on or do you have the pipe strap going over the tank in addition to the clamps?

I remember a post about those straps a while back but I cant find it. There was some discussion if those were actually supports our just used during the install process if I remember right. I dont remember what the determination was, but I will keep searching around. I know my camper does not have them.

they are under the fresh water tanks as i have two tank they run from front to back under the tank and are secured to the support frams that run left to right their are 3 of these metal staps across each tank

Thats right...you lucky 2011 folks have two tanks!

Could be something in the new design. I cant imagine those straps being that weight bearing given how long they are and they only attach to two points.

Since you are under warranty - you might just drop by or call the dealer and ask them to fix all the screws.

yeah i was going to stop in the next time i was in the area and ask about what they recommend. it was an easy fix i just dont want to have to keep fixing a problem that maybe Jayco over looked

That`s not good. You could have been going down the road when they broke and have the tank drop. Was the tank full of water? Not that it should matter.

Thanks Lee.... now you got me wondering. I know for sure how the gray and black are, but I better look again at the fresh water - I just dont remember any straps. I cant imagine how straps could hold the entire weight of the water.

The first time I noticed it I didn't have any water on and had been parked since December when I brought it back from the dealer after they replaced a front panel that was damaged when it was being shipped. Then last week I figured I should put some water on and clear the lines so I started to fill the tanks and popped two more off the rear fresh tank so I’m glad I did this at home instead of going down the road loaded and loosing my fresh tanks.

tafische- what I’m call straps are about 3 to 4 ft 1/4 in think and maybe 1 1/2 to 2 in wide pieces of metal

I had a strap break and the dealer replaced it. They said it was designed as back up support for the tanks. But they do look extremely weak IMHO.

My son has the above camper. Unfortunately he's going through a tough time right now. Had to get a divorce (it's complicated), he ended up with the two babies 2 & 3 yrs old. He also had to quit college the day his X decided she didn't want the kids. He was so excited and doing great after serving in the Marine Corp for 5 yrs. They are on Ca., we are in Tx. He's trying to get back home so i can keep the kids while he works but has to wait on the divorce to be final.

What does all this have to do with camping? One night he heard a loud noise, the carbon monoxide alarm went off, startled and half asleep he grabbed the babies and put them in his truck. Come to find out the gray water tank busted and now has to wait longer than the dealership first thought for a new tank. The defect isn't the tank, it's the straps holding it on. Now he has no where truly livable to stay until they fix it.

I think the dealership or Jayco should provide a loaner or at least put them up in a hotel. My husband and I are helping him but its getting really hard!

We own a Tiffan Motorhome and I thought I was doing good by buying Jayco (I went to Ca. to help him buy it). I can't get a hold of any of the “Big Wigs" at Jayco. It just seems nobody cares.

Has anyone else had this problem with the straps?

My 26BH also has the 2 fresh water tanks. I lost one of the metal straps while driving. Jayco sent me a new replacement one. I'm in the process of removing the self-tapping screws and installing actual bolts with lock nuts.
