Watercraft with Travel Trailer

Anybody have any suggestions on something I could get for a family of five to take with us when trailering the RV that I can take on the water?

I’ve tried the following with no luck:

-Inflatable raft-too much to paddle and way to crazy on the water with us all in it.

-Kayaks-Currently exploring but my wife can’t do it so to a bad back and the kids are too young to probably go for very long.

Any other ideas? I wish I could get a boat and RV. Haha. Can’t tow them both though (legally)

Some states allow you to double tow with a fifth wheel. Skip a towable, and go to an motor home to tow the boat? Take 2 vehicles? This is nicer than you would think. Getting rowdy kids out of the tow vehicle makes me happy.

What is your goal with a boat?

Last year we purchased a 12 foot Portaboat. It is a folding rowboat, that can handle something like upto a o hp motor. Right now we are using an electric trolling motor, while I look for are smaller (5hp) used engine.

I’d like to put around, fish, and swim off it

What about just renting a boat once you get to your destination. We have bikes and kayaks and when we go camping kids don't care for them. They just want to camp.

Excellent suggestion. We find ourselves renting things more and more often. So much cheaper than the long term investment of owning something.

This might be the best answer. By the time I spend $400 rack, $1200 for kayaks or boat, I could take the $1600 and spend on rentals.

Perfect example is my quad. A buddy of mine from college and I used to go ATV riding once or twice a year at an ATV club that had hundreds of miles of trails. I went out and bought a great Polaris 800 EFI back in 2008 I believe. For the first couple of years I would haul my quad in the bed of my truck and pull our old Airstream behind. He traided their travel trailer for a toy hauler and also went out and purchased a new Polaris.

Well as time went on, and both our families grew, we got a little older, and now we don't even go riding anymore. The last time we went, we both rented side x sides and had a blast. Yes, it costs a lot to rent at times. But you don't end up with a quad collecting dust in your garage like we both have.

Have you checked into the Sea Eagle inflatable boats? Many types last time I looked at them,

Same for us. My quad turned into a snow plow for the driveway, and that’s the only time it gets used. We rent SxS twice per year, and even at $2K it’s cheaper than a couple $20K machines, registration, maintenance, etc. Not to mention I can just rent them at the destination and have the trailer we want instead of compromising. They’re also always 2yr old machines or newer.
