Wear in the wheel well
We have a 2008 Jaco Jayfeather 28BHS. I pull it with a 2008 Toyota Tundra 5.7L V8. I had noticed in prep for my last trip to the mountains that the tires appeared very close to the top of the wheel well. I had also seen signs of "scrubbing". My trip was planned and I could not pull out, so off I went. I have a dual set of torsion axles on the TT. The load seems heavier on the passenger side, but not sure why. We do not load camper with anything but some food and clothes.
Could my torsion axle be crapped out? Or is my truck squatting too much and causing the wheels to "scrub". The"scrubbing" is more pronounced on the front axle.
To go on... on my return, I have a blow out on the tire that was doing the scrubbing. Fortunately, no one was hurt, and the damage to the TT was minimal. But I noticed that the "scrubbing" had become so bad during the return trip o as to wear through the metal, through the wood subfloor, and begin to tear up the styrofoam layer before the second layer of aluminum and wood. It's pretty bad.
Can anyone advise me what is happening? I was thinking my truck was squatting too much and that I may need to install air bags to level the load and provide greater clearance on the front axle. But then again, I don't recall there being such little clearance when we purchased the TT used in 2013. This is our fourth summer with it and I am finding the upkeep is a bit overbearing and now this!
Any advice would be great!
