My wife & I have a Jay Flight 24RKS 2010 and our TV is a 2010 Ram 1500 Laramie 5.7 Hemi 3.55 gears.
My question is will our set-up be able to cross Rocky mountains fro Vancouver B.C. Calgary Alberta. I know there will be a lot a diverse answers but any feed back would be appreciated. The unloaded weight of trailer is 5200 # and towing rating of Ram with these gears is 7500 #

You shouldn't have any problem assuming you're not putting unusually heavy loads in the pickup and the trailer. Don't lug on steep grades, go to a lower gear if necessary. Of course, you've got a tow package, brake controller, WDH, right? Expect your HP to drop about 3% or more per thousand feet of elevation and torque drops with it.

Very important - Learn how to descend grades with minimal use of your brakes. Riding them can lead to overheating and loss of braking power. Not a good thing.

The mountains are beautiful, but summer's over. We've had night temps in the 20s a couple of weeks ago. We're at 9000' and last week quite a bit of snow fell above 10,000. You shouldn't need chains on the trip, but should you use them, be sure to have them on a trailer axle, too. Don't want it to pull up along side you when braking!

Nothing to fear if you are prepared and have an idea what to expect. Thousands of people drive over them every day. Enjoy nature at her finest.

Thanks for your feedback re mountain towing. My TV is stock (no Superchips yet) but it does have a good OEM brake controller, tow package and we have an Equal-i-zer WD hitch. Also have coolant, oil & tranny temp readings on dash panel. I was most concerned about the descending grades but I am a cautious driver so I will take your advice and enjoy the scenery. I have been to Banff & Jasper on business but the wife has never been to our Western provinces so she is in for a great experience.

You know you have the right combination when you look at new trucks and trailers and you see no reason to upgrade!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree, no matter what anyone says you always feel the trailer is back there. And that is a good thing because you never wanna forget its there. Now as far as pulling power yes the diesels and a well matched gas combination pull nice. But you will always feel your trailer back there.

Just remember that Rogers Pass is a huge 34km hill. 17km up and then down. With snow in the winter months.
When you hit the coquihalla freeway, it has one particular descent of 10 percent for 42 km. There also may be snow there at all times of the year.
Here is a link to trip advisor page with most of the details of the drive. It is a beautiful drive but not advisable with a TT in the winter IMO.

The Banks intake and exhaust has been recommended for my Ford F150. Are you happy with it?

What exhaust are you running? I think the previous owner put a spin tech on here which is incredibly loud.

Hello I am new to the forum and a new Jayco owner. My current set up is a Jayco 23RLSW and my TV is a 2008 Silverado 1500 excab 5.3L w/tow package. I also have a Husky leveling hitch. I love my new TT but it seems my TV is struggling some towing it . I am considering weighing the whole rig because I am stumped as to why . At 4800 lbs dry my TT is well under the 6700 lbs the vehicle is max rated at. I am no where near that . Maybe at the most with a little bit of water and gear 5,700 lbs.

Also I am planning to go to the west coast some time and just the thought of traveling up steep grades is causing me some concern considering how my TT acted on the hills of east Tx.If I remember right Oregon has some tight turns and steep up and down grades leading to the coast. If anyone can offer any real world experiences with similar set ups I would greatly appreciate it . Thanks in advance.

Patrick.
