That is a special type of electrical crimp connector, and requires a special set of pliers to crimp it with. If done correctly, (as the one in the picture obviously wasn't,) the wires will not come loose. I've made tens of thousands of connections using those, and never had one fail. Of course, same thing with "wire nuts", they can be installed incorrectly also and can fail. Just like so many other things, they are no better than the person that installs it.

By the way, it's not a doohicky, it's a whatchamacallit. It's not a thingahmajig either.

My answer to the doohicky, whatchamacallit and the thingahmajig issues. Used it a lot rewiring the SOLAR/BATTERY connections. So far so good!!!
