What % off MSRP for 32BHDS
Hi All,
Had been shopping for a 5th wheel but the one we want can only be ordered and we don't really want to wait that long so now we're looking at travel trailers again. Found a Jay Flight 32BHDS on a local dealer lot that we like but I'm not sure if it is a good deal or if I need to try harder to negotiate the price down.
From the MSRP sheet in the unit:
Base price: $30,202
Customer value package: $2549
Elite Package: $1192
50 Amp Service: $375
Thermal Pkg: $472
Hide-a-Bed: $555
TV, 32": $487
Destination Charge: $3888
Dealer Prep: $789
Total MSRP: $40,509
Dealer's Price: $27,995
If I go strictly off those last two numbers, I get 31% off but not sure if I'm calculating that correctly. I've read that I should look for 25-30% off, but I also read that the calculation should be use the base MSRP not including options rather than the total MSRP. If thats the case, then the dealer price is only about 8% but that doesn't seem quite right.
Would appreciate if all you smart folks can clear this up for me.
Thanks!!

Well, 1/2 (or more) the price of the options is pure profit.
Since you can tell the dealer, "this isn't what I want" and you can walk away (you are prepared to walk away, aren't you?)
I'd make an initial offer of $17,000 and be happy to get the 5r for anything under 21K
Look elsewhere if you want to be happy with your purchase.

Yes, we are willing to walk away but we had previously put a deposit down on another unit that we decided against for various reasons so we would lose that. My fault but this is all a learning experience.
If I offer $17000, I'm assuming that would be before destination charges (which are ridiculous @ $3,888)?

LOL! Wow, you would offer 58% off the MSRP? I'm sure that's well below the dealer's cost.
Without doing more research, it looks like a decent deal. What I would do is contact the RV wholesalers to get quotes (RV Direct, RV Wholesalers, The RV Express), and see how they compare to the dealer's price.

Destination fees to the left coast are unfortunately always outrageous. I have read stories of guys driving from CA to IN to save on the transport fee.

That destination charge looks a bit overpriced however, with that said, we paid just a few bucks under 3k for delivery to Silverdale, WA. My accepted offer was 25% off of the total price (installed options and delivery) this was last December. Looks like the deal they have is pretty good especially for this time of year.

That trailer can be had for around 23k from one of the wholesalers. I bought mine locally because it just worked out better and they were easy to work with. Expect to pay $2-$3000 more buying from a regular dealer. I was fine with that. $26,000 would be right in the ball park for a 32bhds. I also ordered fiberglass sides which is a $1200 option.

Is this a '16 or '17 model??? Does that price include the destination (transport) charge or a wdh? Regardless, seems like a decent price if without those, pretty good w/.
We paid $23k & change (before tax, title, license) for our $34k+ msrp 32 BHDS. Not as many options, but that price also include the destination charge and the wdh. Ours is a '16 that we bought July of '15.
You will want at least 1400 or 1500lb wd bars for this beast! Depending on how and what you load in the front pass through, you may need higher rated bars. Especially if you travel with a fair amount of water in the fresh tanks.
Also get a 2.5" shank for the wdh system. Eliminates the reducer!!!
Maybe get the wdh system included, and worst case split the destination charge???
Don't skimp in the wdh either. If you go with the Reese Dual Cam, make sure they know what they are doing when they install it. The Reese SC is another good system with 1500lb rated bars. The Equal-I-Zer 4 way system is good also, but max wd bars are rated at 1400lbs.
Good luck!!!

I would shoot for 30% off MSRP of the base price plus all the factory options, plus $2000 for delivery ($3888 seems ridiculous), plus $0 for prep fee which would be around $26,500.

Thanks for all the great info about the WDH! The model we're looking at is a 2016 and the price includes destination but not a WDH.
Dealer has a 2017 for same price but we like the 2016 better (options, colors, etc)

I would drive to Indiana to pick it up. You can camp in it for a few days right there to test it for problems. Jayco is almost down the block & if any issues you know where to go. Save $3880 in shipping & $789 in prep fee. You will spend about $700 for your transport fee (2100 miles drive) & $150 for there prep fee. Big savings right there!

% off MSRP Food for Thought
Is it a 2017 or 2016? 2017 models are out. I see you are in CA where MSRP prices are quite different from the East Coast MSRP prices. Shoot for 33% if it a 2016. Have you owned a new TT before? If not be prepared to go thru a shakedown process to get the problems ironed out. You can get a mostly problem free unit with minor problems or a lemon with major problems and there are no lemon laws pertaining to RV's at this point. True Jayco has a 2 yr warranty, however, if you follow this forum you can readily see that poor quality units are being manufactured and pushed to dealers. The dealers emphasis is on sales and not so much customer service. Go in for warranty work and in most cases the blame game comes to the front.
Recommend you look for a couple years old used unit for sale by owner. Realize how much a new RV depreciates. I wish you luck in your journey.

This thread caught my eye as we are considering our very first RV purchase right now. Yup, total noob. A local dealer has a sale price on the 2017 Jayflight SLX 267 for right around 75% of MSRP, including options. This price includes destination, prep, etc. but not a WDH. Based on what I'm reading in this thread that seems like a reasonable deal. However, paying the asking price doesn't feel right either. Any thoughts? We're excited to give this a try, but finding out later we were screwed on the price would take off a little shine.
Thanks!

I got 35% off MSRP when I ordered my trailer in February of 2015 from a local dealer. Got a quote from Rvone or Rvdirect or one of the other places (can't remember now), used that to get prices from local places. Local place came within a couple hundred dollars and saved me a 400 mile drive.
One thing to be careful about is the actual MSRP. Go to the Jayco website and price it out to get the real MSRP. Some dealers will inflate the MSRP to give the appearance of a higher percentage off.

With Jayco there is one MSRP, and fortunately for us they publish it on their website. East Coast or West Coast MSRP is no different.
OP the offer they are making is fair, there likely is $1-$2k more if you really grind them and they are motivated to sell.

I would love to do this someday... Sounds like an adventure and would save a few bucks. Unfortunately, many factors preclude me from doing it this time around. Maybe on the next one!

I've read a lot about this and am worried but hoping to be lucky and get a solid unit like many others have. We've looked for used but finding one has proven difficult. I think we could do it if we were willing to keep looking and wait indefinitely until the right one comes along but we've been wanting to do this for a long time and are anxious to jump in with both feet.
We've looked at 2016 and 2017 models and like the 2016 32BHDS the best.

I was wondering about this... While the option prices match up, the base MSRP does not... It's off by about $1k. Thanks for pointing this out... I'll ask them about the discrepancy.
