tank refills

If you have a double tank setup and you do leave them on the TT when one is being filled, please remember to shut off any appliances that have an open flame such as your refrigerator if it is running on Propane.

HI Lynn after getting caught once in bad weather with no propane I started only opening one tank when it goes dry I close it and open the other tank then take tank #1 in to be filled.. some places can fill your tank on the tongue some put it on a scale to fill. I like to take my tank off every time.. it lets me check the area for damage, rust etc.

If you are members of Costco or BJs clubs, at least at ours here, you can fill a 20lb tank now for under $7.00 in north Georgia. Might be worth a check if you are members.

Camping World refills Good Sam members for $1.99 on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Just be aware that not every Camping World has propane. In Dallas/Ft. Worth for example, only the Ft. Worth location has propane. Link to the discount is below.

Half off LP propane for Good Sam Club members every Tuesday and Wednesday -

When running a single 20# BBQ bottle on my old trailer, I always carried a spare. When the one on the tongue ran out (usually after dark when it's raining), I'd swap to the spare. Then refill the empty at my convenience after getting home.

I'm planning on doing pretty much the same thing on the new trailer. But with two 30# bottles on the tongue and no standing pilots, I have yet to run 1 bottle out on 2 camping trips plus keeping the trailer ready to roll. (I did unlock the bottles and hand slosh them to get a clue on the level; Primary is 1/4-1/3 full, the secondary is still full. Nice!)

Where I live you get them filled by weight. Have to remove them to put them on a scale.

I never use returnable tanks. They are commonly used to store anhydrous ammonia in the manufacture of methamphetamine. Usually the top valve will be discolored. The ammonia eats the brass away

The biggest reason I will not use a tank exchange is that the tanks you get usually look cruddy. I refill my existing tanks and they always look nice. And it's cheaper too. We have several places nearby that do refills. I usually take mine to Loves.

I would hope the propane exchange industry is well aware of that by now and is smart enough not to pass along those tanks to their consumers.
