Wheel Bearings Maintenance

When do y'all grease your bearings? Our Jayflight22FB is going on 3yrs old this month. When we took delivery our dealer specifically told me NOT to grease these bearings! The Tech said many people over grease them and scream warranty. I did a visual inspection last year, nothing unusual. This trailer has less than a 1,000 miles on it so I really haven't been real concerned until now.

Time is as big a factor as mileage.. if a trailer is sitting and any part of the bearing does not have a coating of grease on it then it can start to rust.. Time to clean and repack your bearings..

3 years/1000 miles; time to pull things apart, have a look and feel how everything has worn. Replace components as needed.

Ummm.... the lubricant or the mood stabilizer?

For lubricant, I believe Dexter recommends lithium complex.

Yes, it's lithium complex. The list is here on page 6...they are pretty specific about the grease. I haven't been to see if my local parts stores carry these but my WalMart does not.

We average about 20,000 Kms (just under. 13,000 miles) a season. We balance, rotate and inspect/service the bearings in the fall at the same garage that has serviced our vehicles for 35 years. That way it's ready to go in the spring. Our 2012 5er has been done 3 times since new. Last fall 2 bearings were replaced.
It gives us confidence to know they have been looked at regularly.
