Where do you store your generator and gasoline?

We bought a Champion generator (Model: 200990 4500-Watt Wireless Remote Start Inverter Generator with Quiet Technology × 1) so that we can have AC when we boondock with our 2020 245RLS. Our TV is a Nissan 3500 van.
We're trying to figure out the best way to transport the generator and fuel to minimize fumes and lifting.
When in use, the generator will obviously be outside the TV and TT.

How do YOU transport YOUR generator and fuel?

Thanks in advance!

I’m pretty sure most of the answers you will get are “in the truck bed” and “in the front pass through storage”

There are a couple racks you can buy to mount/store the generator on the trailer tongue above your propane tanks. That might be your best option.

I dont think the genny being in van would be an issue but I would carry the gas on a rack outside.

Given that you don't want to ride with fumes , the next best is in the pass through.. We carry gas and genny in the truck bed so its isolated. We don't want to have fumes linger under our bed either but I think those are your only alternatives.

We carry ours in the truck bed, exhaust up against tail gate and fuel cans at genny air intake. when we camp we remove fuel cans to allow a space for air intake, drop the tailgate to allow exhaust gasses to escape and run it from there. No lifting in or out and it always comes with us when we drive away from the trailer.

If your camper has a receiver on the back, you can use a cargo carrier for the genny and gas cans.

I carry mine in the generator compartment up front storage in my rig. That's what it's intended for if I had a generator. It's vented to the outside under the bottom. I carry my gas can in the truck bed.

My Predator fits perfectly in the bed of my truck under my tri fold cover. I carry a gas can back there as well.

With a van, your choices are challenging. Strap it in back of the van. I really do not like this option. But it is an option.

Put it in the TT, my first choice would be up front next to the bed. Again strap it down. Personall I like this more than I the van.

My preference would be to have a welding shop, build a custom 2" reciever hitch, with a couple welded on eyes on the outside edges. Buy an aluminum cargo tray. Secure the tray to the eyes to reduce the wobble. Secure the genny and fuel to the tray. Lock the genny to the eyes.

If we were towing with our van more often, I would invest in something like this from Stromberg Carlson.

A safari/roof rack is also a possibility with a van. Only issue is hoisting stuff up there. If it’s a dedicated tow rig, You could mount the generator and a supply tank up there. Just fill the tank in place, and the whole setup gets easier to use assuming you have enough power cord.

I fabricated a rack for the back of my 5er. It folds up and is completely removable, I used a tailgate light bar to add lighting to it.

I have a Champion duel fuel that I keep in the back of my TV along with two twenty pound tanks of propane. Everything is chained down. I also have a window fan zip tied to the back of the generator which I plug in after start up. I roll the bed cover back out of the way when the generator is running.

Why are you using gas? Get a dual fuel and use propane tank. I use a 20lb...and if I run out, I can always use the two 30s that are on my TT.

try and use Trufuel 4 cycle zero ethanol in 1 gal. cans from home depot. the cans are sealed and fuel should have a shelf life of about 10 years unopened, I know it's expensive but I have 12 gal. stored in my backyard shed for emergencies

I have a 300# rated receiver on the back of our trailer. I bought a 500# rated cargo tray to go into the receiver. The only thing I carry on that tray is the Predator. When the generator had the stock wheels, it fit perfectly inside the tray. Now, with the big wheels, I added a stack of 4x4 and 2x4 for the generator to sit on, with one side the wheels are inside the tray, the other side the wheels are hanging over the tray edge. I loop a security cable thru the handles and around the hitch to lock it on the back. I can keep an eye on it going down the road in my back up camera. Once strapped down with a pair of ratchet straps, it doesn't move. For gas, it might be expensive, but you can go to you local auto parts store and buy canned fuel for 4 cycle engines pre-treated with stabilizer and ethanol free. 2 or 3 cans in a basket, stayed sealed in the back of the van and with what you already have in the generators gas tank, will easily last you a long weekend.

I tried that for a couple weeks last summer before we got the new rig. On the longest trip we ran a 20lb propane tank dry around 9:00AM on the third day. A single 5 gallon gas can lasted the rest of the 7 day trip with some left over. Same equipment, same spot, same usage. The generator was throttled up way more often on propane.
