Where is my pilot light?

I don’t see a pilot light. Is my hot water heater electric only? I don’t see a propane on/off switch anywhere either.

It's electronic ignition...gas is fully automatic. Gas on/off should be next to the electric on/off switch in the control panel or on the wall.

On the right side of the picture you can see a pipe going into a 3 inch or so opening with a wire and white insulator on top. This is your propane burner assembly. The wire into the pipe object is the electronic igniter. The pilot should be just inside from the igniter.

With someone inside have them start the water heater. It should be either automatic where it opens the gas to the pilot and the igniter goes click, click a few times. If it is near dark you should see a spark with a little mirror. Don't get to close in case it goes poof.

If the igniter is bad or adjusted out of the flame you can use a long gas match during this start attempt to light the pilot. If the pilot won't light and you do have gas flowing then there are several more steps to diagnose the problem. Watch a few youtubes on water heater diagnostics and care. You may have to clean the pilot or adjust the igniter.

Good luck. It's not rocket science but they can be finicky, same as the fridge and furnace.
