Where to buy replacements parts?

Hello all! Im new here and new to camper life. Just bought a 2015 Jayco Jay Flight 23mb. Im handy but i dont know much about travel trailers and Rv. Would appreciate any guidance and help. If you could point me in the direction to buy replacement parts for the best prices and quality would be great help.

I noticed some kind of latch looks broken for the door. I believe its to hold the door in place when its open so the wind doesnt blow it closed. For instance if your using the screen door and leaving the main door open. Looks like the latch was broken off. There is nothing to connect to the door. Ill try to get a pic tomorrow if needed. Where can i get one of these?

Also skylight is looking pretty yellow and old. Im thinking i should replace that before it cracks and leaks. Any recomendations? If you have advice on which sealant to use or whatever you think i should know about the process im all ears!

Also noticed around the outdoor shower hose the sealant is in bad shape. And around storage areas is starting to look ready for new caulk as well. Which sealant is best for around these? I plan to remove old sealant and put new. Is this a good idea or can you just go over the old? Thanks so much!

Welcome to the Forum from Western New York State! Congratulations on the Jay Flight, and we're glad you've joined us!

I have to do some quick research on two of your questions, to get specifics, so I'm going to answer out of order.

The caulking on most of the outside penetrations (water heater, compartment doors, gravity water fill port, etc.) is butyl caulk in the form of a tape. Either 3/4" or 1" wide x whatever length in a roll that's offered. Frequently either 30', 50', etc. There are shorter packages available, but they're mostly for roof vent installation. Same stuff.

The door latch can be had at many websites, or RV dealers. There are some different lengths, and are either straight, or have a bend in them, to accommodate different applications. One good source is etrailer.com. Great customer service there.

The skylight replacement I have done myself, and recommend an aftermarket piece, that'll be thicker, more durable material. You'll need to take 4 measurements while you're on the roof. The total length and width, and the length and width of the actual "bubble". Both may be required to get the correct one.

I'll be back with some websites when I find them, for the latch, and the guy I bought my skylight from, if he's been able to get material to make them since the virus.

Here's a bunch of different size rolls of butyl tape. The 3/4" and 1" are the most common widths of 1/8" thick material.

The skylight is next....working on it....

Generally speaking, best prices I have seen has been at Walmart and Amazon.

Usually the highest price is at a rv dealership.

I'm waiting for a reply from the place I bought ours, so in the meantime, Here's a place I found Lexan skylights at a reasonable price. Acrylic material is not recommended for an RV skylight. Scroll down to the shape and size on their listings. The offer three thicknesses. I think ours is 3/16" if I recall correctly.

Disclaimer: I don't have any affiliation or interest in any of these businesses.

Im in South Florida by the way!

Wow JFlightRisk you are the man! Thanks for all the info. Now i have a couple more questions lol. For the skylight im thinking maybe white vs the clear because light will still come in for bathroom but might block a little heat? Or is it the same either way? Didnt realize they made them custom. I figured they would have them ready by trailer model. guess i got to get up there and measure.

So it looks like this is the door latch i have.
https://www.etrailer.com/RV-Door-Par.../37210324.html
But the plastic peg is snapped off. Wondering if i should just get the same one or switch to metal. Are these universal? Will the metal one fit the same screw holes? Is the one you sent link for the one you recommend?

As for the caulking around the "outside penetrations" your saying to just put the butyl tape over it? Isnt that going to look ugly with tape around everything? I can see using the tape on the roof because no one sees it. Or maybe im misunderstanding? Thanks again for all the info i can use all the help i can get!

The skylight color is a matter of preference. Our TT had a white one, so that was what I replaced it with. There's an inner skylight panel also, so to us it didn't really matter much.

I'm not positive if the screw holes/pattern is identical between the plastic and metal ones or not. For the metal latches I've actually replaced on other folks' trailers, those did line up. You could take your parts off, and maybe take them to a dealer to compare first. You may get lucky.

No, the butyl goes underneath, not on top. Yeah, that would look terrible. The butyl tape goes between the device mounting flange and the trailer wall, or roof. You'll need to take it off, clean the old butyl off, and reapply some new tape, then reinstall it. Being in a Florida climate, the edges of the old tape that you can see, may be dry and brittle, but underneath the device flange, it still might be pliable. Unfortunately, you may have to remove something to see if that is indeed the case, or it needs to be resealed with the new tape. When in doubt, new stuff will ensure it's sealed up, and keeping water out.

It may sound like a lot of work, but that's the nature of the hobby we all live with. Maintenance is very important to increase the longevity of any RV. Good luck, and have fun with it. If you have any other questions, ask away. It's what we all do here for each other.

Oooo that makes sense now. lol When i walk around my TT i can see yellowed sealant around the storage areas and windows. I can see cracking in it which led to believe i need to recaulk. I guess that was added by previous owner to avoid removing and replacing butyl tape? So with use of butyl tape there is no need to for caulk?

Heres pics of the problem areas i found. Around outdoor shower compartment, storage compartment and refridge access. One storage compartment seems fine still but you see the yellow sealant.. and a bonus picture of my trailer!

Sorry im a little confused. As im looking at my trailer i dont see how butyl tape can seal it completely as the siding isnt flat. The deep spots would have huge gaps. I just read like 10 different threads about sealing around everything. Everyone is saying to use a sealant like Proflex RV or Osi Quad. Am i missing something?
