Where to install the TPMS?

Hi,

I called a couple of places where they install the tires. Each one told me that they do not have enough space for my trailer, therefore, they would not be able to install the sensors. I would like to avoid taking off the wheels one by one in the storage place and taking them to the tire place...

Should I look for a truck service place or something?

Thanks!

Your sensors are internal, like automotive OEM units?

Most aftermarket types just screw on the valve stems. Some have to be removed to add air or check the pressure manually, some are flow-thru so you can check and adjust them on the wheel.

Just curious, what brand do you have?

TST 507 internal sensors. I regret buying those

Hey buddy, that's too bad! There ARE tire centers that'll work on a travel trailer's tires (at least here in the east). I'd poke around a little more. I'm getting all of my tires changed out at once in a couple of weeks.

I have external screw-on sensors that I bought for $100, they work perfectly. Maybe you can return the internal sensor system and get a refund? Good luck!

Think I found a mobile service. I will try to make an appointment on this sat just before taking the trailer for a weekend camping.

Thanks!

Hopefully your service tech can also balance your wheels/tires after installing the sensors. They look rather large and heavy.

Hopefully 28dsbh wheels are rather small in comparison to wheels from modern cars (14 in vs 20 in in my car).

Bono, if it makes you feel any better about getting the internals, the externals recommend metal valve stems so wheel removal was necessary for the externals as well. While the trailer was up on jackstands in the driveway while I was repacking the bearings I ran the wheels to a local garage and they put my metal stems on and re-balanced the tires and then I put the flow-throughs TPMS after everything was back on the trailer.

I called more less 20 tire places. Most refused to work on TT saying that there is no enough space, their insurance does not cover this, etc. I even worked with google satellite view and found a place with huge parking lot, so space was not an issue - they said that they could do max 20ft trailer. Why 20 and not 30ft? Unknown reasons.

So far I found this mobile guy - he is charging $200 for installation of the four sensors. Another place which agreed to work on the trailer, was a ford dealer - they asked to drop off the trailer (inconvenience) and they would charge $270 (!).

I thought that I need to change the approach as I will be changing the tires sooner than later (famous Rainier tires) and I will hit the wall again. Installation of the sensors only should be no more than $100.

I am considering buying a bottle jack and bringing the wheels to the shop.

Would this jack be OK?

https://www.amazon.com/Powerbuilt-64...ds=bottle+jack

Can I lift the trailer between the wheels and take off two wheels at a time? The manual says to put the jack either in front or in the back to the wheel, depending on whether you are changing front or the back wheel.

Thanks!

Have you thought about exchanging your internal sensors for the external sensors with TST? If you do, I'd recommend the flow through units. I've had the external sensors mounted on stock rubber valve stems for 2 years and haven't had a problem.
Good luck!

Thanks, I think I will go ahead with the internal sensors, which are TST as well. I knew that I would need to make a little bit more effort to install them vs. external sensors, but I did not know that it is almost not possible to find a place to install them. At least, close to where I live.
