Which hitch system is best for me

Please direct me to a thread if this is covered

We have a 2019 Jayco Jay Feather 27BH.
Bought a new truck, 23021 Silverado 2500 HD 4WD LTZ crew cab.

What hitch system is the best for this set up considering ease of use and importantly sway control?

Any good WDH should be fine. The two most popular according an unscientific survey (my recollection) of members here are the Equalizer or Anderson. Hensley and ProPride are highly recommended with a high price to match.

I used the Blue Ox on my 1500. I did not like it. For a couple reasons.
So is the Reese hitch lower on the list that the 2 you mentioned?

Based on my unscientific survey, yes.

I pull a similar sized trailer with an F-150. After much research I purchased a Curt Tru-Track. The design is the same as the Equalizer but, when I bought mine about $250 less.

Have you checked with eTrailer? They have "experts" available to answer questions and make recommendations. You can call or submit a question through their website. They normally respond within 24-48 hours.

You've got a good TV and a reasonable trailer. I'd say you have several choices. I had a Curt and did not care for it. I had a pro Pride but it did not fit the front shape of my eagle so it's it's rusting in a barn 300 miles away. My equalizer served me well for many years and I would recommend it for that reason

We use a Husky WDH. This setup seems to be fairly ubiquitous out here on the west coast and works well with our TT and TV.

I have a reese and it has north of 20k miles on it and works as advertised.

it does creek and needs some very light lubricant every so often to keep it quiet...

The Reese Strait-Line is a nice WDH with integrated sway control..., plus if you ever have to upgrade spring bars they are compatible with the existing ball mount...., don't have to purchase a totally new WDH.

Another feature I like is that the Reese Strait-Line's integrated sway control is also 'pro-active' in managing sway, not just re-active.

My Reese WDH Strait-Line is over 15 years old and never had an issue with it.

The key to any brand WDH is proper sizing & adjustment in-order to meet it's optimum performance, and a CAT Scale is the only way to truly 'dial-in' a WDH.

Cat Scale how-to: https://www.jaycoowners.com/forums/f...v-tt-3871.html

Same trailer paired with a 2002 GMC Sierra 2500HD 8.1L EC.

On date of purchase in September 2019, I installed a propride hitch in the dealer parking lot myself. Drove it home and went on a few trips. Loved it. Fast forward a few months to March 2020 and decided I wanted to rent the trailer out for a little extra income. For ease of use by renters, I installed a Reese dual cam. Took it on a few drives and hated it. It wasn't terrible; I just felt like the trailer was wagging the truck and I had it dialed in perfectly.

I reinstalled the propride and never looked back. Much more stable feeling.

I use an equalizer. spendy but worth every penny. you can't beat them. there's a lot of options out there but I kept going back to the equalizer, been around forever too. the built in anti sway is really nice as well.

I have read in a few places the Equalizer is noisy. Metal on metal grinding noise. Is this true?

mine was noisy at first. equalizer makes a grease you can apply along with a nylon bracket that rests on the base where the bars rest. it helps with the noise and doesn't affect what the hitch is acclompishing. primarily until the paint and stickers are worn off it may make some noise. mine is good now.

The Equal-i-zer I have is not noisy. Mine has the nylon (?) pads on brackets, so maybe that helps? I've used mine for 3 years now and it's fantastic.

Same with mine. I installed the pads and love the hitch. Actually just purchased the 12,000 lb since we were pushing the limits of the first one because of our weights. No chains, no wrenches and no special procedures to hook up.

hitch with sway control

back when i owned a TT i used a Reece straight line for an outback 29bhs. worked like a charm with my 2005 chevy 1500 CC. I traded in my 1500 for a 2006 2500HD diesel because the 5.3L in the 1500 had trouble pulling the big trailer up and down the PA mountains. when i went to the 2500HD I actually stopped using the WD system and never had an issue. though I traded that trailer in the next year and have been towing 5th wheels ever since.

Ours was noisy at first, but like stated above, I use the Equalizer lube on the friction surfaces and ball, have the sway bracket jackets, and check the socket bolt torque in the spring before we take the first trip. No squawking noises from it now.

We use the Andersen Ultimate hitch with the B&W goose neck turn over ball hitch pulling a 42' and love it. Easy to hook up, light weight-you can pick it up with one hand, and no chucking at all. It's like it's welded to the frame. We talked to a lot of 5th wheel owners before pulling the trigger on the Andersen.

Your question is which is the best, Answer: Hensley Hitch or Pro-Pride, hands Down--look them up and see for your self. (what is your Family's life worth is how I look at it)

I have a very similar set-up to what you describe. Only difference is my trailer is a 2018 Jayco Jay Flight 28BHBE. When I first bought the trailer I fitted it with a Curt round bar system with single friction sway control and found the trailer swayed way to much. I upgraded to an Equalizer system and all is good now. Way better in my opinion. And no more having to remove or loosen the sway bar to back into a site either.

I have a 29BH and use a blue ox. No issues. With a 2500 I don’t think any hitch will give you an issue
