White Hawk Cap Replacement - Update

Jayco will repair the oxidation to the cap of my 2014 White Hawk 27RBOK. Evidently, the repair is actually replacing the end cap entirely. This concerns me on two levels: the obvious, breaking the factory seal and is the top coat formula any better on the replacement cap than what's on the original... Will it oxidize again in 12 months. I'm thinking of paying someone to paint it and apply a quality top coat and forget about Jayco offering to replace the end cap at no cost to me.

What do you think I should do?

Our front cap has several cracks and they are being repaired and front cap painted.
Jayco told my dealer that they no longer replace caps they repair and paint.

The warranty on my 2014 Whitehawk 28DSBH was up on October 29th. I brought it to the dealer in early October to have a few minor items repaired under warranty and I also inquired about the gel coat on the front cap being hazy and fading. Jayco agreed to replace the front cap and is sending a new one to the dealer. I'm also somewhat concerned about breaking the factory seal on my Whitehawk.

Our 2014 Whitehawk also had a defective cap. we chose not to let the dealer remove and replace the cap. I was concerned about resizing, rewiring and resealing the front cap. After much thought and anguish we made the decision to trade the unit.

White Hawk Cap Replacement - Update

Had my pinnacle gelcoat sanded painted then two coats of clearcoat this summer and they did a great job. Body shop said it's as good as any auto job. Jayco covered it under warantee just make sure they do the complete cap and not just the area faded or you will have a problem down the road .

I'd opt for a repair and automotive base / clear job. Been their 3 times with previous rigs. You don't want OEM / original or you'll have the repeat issue.

I have a 2013 Eagle I have waxed the cap every year. It is starting to fade. Albany RV said they would check with Jayco. More then likely they will paint it. They said possible replacement, I am concerned about breaking the factory seal also. Think I may request painting only.

I've decided to have it repainted - removing the cap opens up too many possibilities for problems. The dealer wants to replace the cap so l'll have to find an automotive paint and body place to have it fixed. I expect to pay for it myself but will ask Jayco to help. Thanks to all for your comments.

I think you're making the right choice. Have it repainted the color of your choice now. Like some, go back with the lighter sidewall color on the front cap, then just put new decals. Lighter color / less heat.
