Winterizing Black Flush Tank - Question
Hi All,
I am a new owner (white hawk 28dsbh). I successfully winterized the water lines with antifreeze today using the water pump, except for the black flush tank. I then tried to hand pump antifreeze into the black flush tank - but most/all of it spat back out at me. Does the black tank valve need to be open for me to get fluid into the black flush line? If not, how do I get antifreeze in there? Thanks!

I have never heard of anyone winterizing the flush line but some blow out the line with compressed air. I haven't done anything with the flush line in two hard winters and mine hasn't had an issue. I believe the flush line terminates at perforated nozzle type fitting and gravity and evaporation clear any residual water out of the line within a few days after use.

I would not think that there should be any pressure build up in your black tank because it is vented through the roof.
with that said. I have not done anything with my tank flush yet. some other members have mentioned use compressed air. I will try that in the next couple of days.

From my understanding, there is a check valve at the black tank flush input. Maybe the hand pump just doesn't have enough pressure to unseat it. Also, the black tank is vented, So you could never pressurize that system. If you have the ability, just blow the line out with air, as many have done, including myself. Works like a champ!

When I blew my flush line out, I thought I heard a quick rush of water before I could hear air flowing. Wish I knew what it looked like in there, because even if any freeze damage were to happen, you probably would never even know.

Thanks C-David. Local Jayco dealer said I should hand-pump some antifreeze into the black flush line; it just didn't seem to want to go, so I figured I was doing something wrong. As a newbie, the rest was pretty easy for a first go at it.

2014 Greyhawk black flush took the pink without a problem..also the camcorder hand pump for this purpose evacuated the gallon so well I wouldn't be surprised if you could pink the whole rig and run from all faucets without a problem..it evacuated a third of the gallon with three pumps. Poured rest in pee traps..$13 at cW
