Winterizing black tank flusher inlet

Hello all,

I have heard from both sides of the fence on this one. This year is my first with a black tank flushing system. The camper is tucked away in its winter storage barn. I did not pump anti-freeze or air in to the city water inlet or the black tank flushing inlet.

The owners manual does not state to do so.

Have any others had experience (good or bad) with not winterizing the city inlet or black tank flusher?

We blow out our lines and I also blow a little air into the blank tank flush connection with one of these http://www.campingworld.com/shopping...-out-plug/4410. I use it only on the black tank flush connection, not the city water hook up. I use this for the city water connection http://www.campingworld.com/shopping...out-hose/38534. I also leave the blank tank valve open when I put a couple blasts of air in the black tank connection.

I have never winterized those two lines and never had a problem. It get down to single digit temps here.

I do nothing, it gets to low teens here and I have had zero issues with freezing flusher.

The only way that the flush line could freeze is if it is longer than necessary and has a low spot in it. A funnel and a pint of antifreeze would make sure it is protected.

The first year I had this Eagle I didn't winterize the black tank sprayer. The following year, I had strange odors. Ended up taking down the sealed bottom and finding the black tank sprayer had froze and cracked, leaking black tank into underbelly.

After replacing it and the insulation around the tank, I made sure to blow it out every year and pour antifreeze down it.

Five years later, hasn't been a problem!

Both my black tank sprayers have backflow check valves on them somewhere in the lines. After flushing if you have pressure that remains in the line until you disconnect the hose from the fitting you have them too. Your most likely going to have water remaining in the line somewhere. Every unit model is going to have a different type run to this sprayer so what works for one may not be the case in another.

Since your rig is stored away you could take a 2ft piece of old garden hose or made up with the male end and a cup of pink with you. If your lungs are in good shape you can blow it out that way. Then add the pink in the hose and give it another few puffs. I did this on mine since I did not want to fill an entire length of hose with the pink stuff then re-connect the air fitting to the female end to push it through.

I won't lie to you, it took some pressure to get it through, but it did go in.
