Winterizing Jayco 19RD

Hi friends. First time winterizing 2011 Jayco 19RD. I used a compressor to blow out all the air. Watched a YouTube video and completed all the steps. Pretty confident I did it correctly. I just wanted to make sure I had the 3 valves in the proper position. Bypass valve was open and the other two valves closed. Cleared hot water tank, grey and black water tanks, all other release valves under trailer. Put a little RV antifreeze down the sink drains. Am I missing anything?

Did you drain the shower hose(s)? Antifreeze in the tub/shower P-trap?

While blowing out the lines, did you flush the toilet?

BTW, if you are not filling the water system with RV antifreeze, you don't need to mess with the water heater bypass valves. Those valves allow you to not fill the water heater (ie bypass the water heater) with antifreeze to save a few $$.

I did everything you mentioned. It gets to -26C up here in Northern BC. I’m debating whether to use antifreeze or just go with lines being blown out. I’m new at this.

Ah, yes. Prince George, BC. I confused that with King George which is a city here in the States and south of Washington, DC.

Using antifreeze or not has been debated here a few times. I'm sure if you search you'll find folks and information on both sides of the issue.

BTW, YEARS ago DW and I were through Prince George to get the ferry in Prince Rupert down to Vancouver Island.

That’s a nice trip. We moved here a year and a half ago from Vancouver BC. Quite an adjustment. Just bought the trailer in October 2017. Took it out 4 times over the summer.

I'm sure you drained your fresh water tank but you might want to look under your TT at the drain line itself. Usually that drain line bows down lower than the drain valve and you could still have water in it. Just push it up a bit and let it drain out the last ounce or two and leave the drain valve open till spring.

I do both on my 5er. Blow the lines out and for $5 for two gallons of RV antifreeze on sale at Walmart ....
it's cheap insurance.

X2 and I also think the anti freeze keeps all the plumbing seals from drying out.

I like the lubrication qualities you get when you incorporate the non-toxic antifreeze into the system. Keeps all the seals at the faucets lubricated.
I have been using it for many years with never an issue.
So for cheap money its a small investment for the long term.

After years of patching water lines each spring in our 60 foot mobile home that served as a summer house in Colorado, even when I hired a winterizing company to blow out the lines, I used RV antifreeze in our campers after we retired and built a home there. Never had a problem, and we'd have several -20F days and nights every winter.

I'm not a fan of blowing out lines even though many find it works for them. I'd encourage the OP to use antifreeze and sleep well all winter for the price of a Big Mac meal.
