Wireless rearview camera

Hey there,

I just bought a new 2013 Jayco x213 (so awesome) and I have an old wireless rearview camera I want to hook up to it.

What I was hoping someone might know... is if I would be capable of powering my small camera using the 4 pin connector on my truck.

I'm not sure what kind of power the 4pin outputs, and if it's always active power or only when the brakes or signals are applied. I thought of using the 12v connecter inside the trailer (which my camera is already wired for) but I want to use this method so my camera doesn't drain my trailer battery (its already killed an portable battery). As far as I'm aware, the 4 pin only outputs power while the truck is turned on.

A bit of research shows that the brake connecter (brown) applies the most voltage at 11v, but is that constant power? Or only when the brakes are applied?

I know this isn't related to my jayco specifically but maybe someone has tried this before. Anyone think this is do-able? If so, how?

Brown is for tail lights, liscense light and side markers...should be hot when the TV lights are on. Why not find the reverse wire on your TV and tap into that? If you tap into the brown, your camera will be on constanty while the TV lights are on.

Actually that's what I was hoping. Being a larger trailer than what I'm used to, I was hoping for a "rearview mirror" effect. This way I can keep an eye on what's behind me

I always had reservations about using WIRELESS things... I know they all have built-in codes etc but sure would make your day if you are viewing whats behind you and you are actually looking from the rear of the trailer next to you haha...

If it were me I would power the rear camera with the trailer battery system. This is always on when you are hooked up...

When you are unhooked you should be using a BATTERY DISCONNECT switch on your trailer anyway...

Congrats on your trailer choice. I came that close / / to getting one. That is one nice trailer. With only the two of us using I had big plans of converting the Bunk area into an office/radio console/small storage area.

Very nice! Cool concept. However in a few years there should be kids involved so we need that bottom bunk! :P

I'm an I.T. guy so I appreciate that concept idea lol. Very cool using a hutch as a desk.

Is a battery disconnect switch something I would initiate from nearby the battery? Cause that would accomplish the same thing I suppose.

Hey guys thanks for the help. It worked. Sorta.

The power is fine, when i switch my lights on (they're on anyways as running lights so you dont actually see a difference other than on the interior lights).

However once i uncoiled the camera with a spare 4 pin I had, which is only half the distance of the trailer, the signal became too weak to view. Sad

Oh well it was fun trying.
