Wiring for a harness

Hello all,

I'm new here so please bare with me.

We are trying to wire the harness that runs from the trailer to the truck for turn signals and brake lights. The jacketed cable has one wire that is brown and the wire on the trailer is red. Would the brown and red be spliced together?
