Working on camper while on warranty

Hello,
I just noticed that our water pump is leaking. I am assuming it is from the lack of thread sealant on some of the connections. I contacted Jayco and supposedly if I work on the pump it will void the warranty? I won't be able to the get any service on it until late summer, should I say screw it and try to fix it myself or keep a rag underneath it. The leak isn't much but soaks up a small rag within a day.
Quite annoying since we purchased this camper less than a month ago.

Your not fixing the pump your only stopping a water leak, just go ahead and fix it.

see if you have a white hose flexible connected to the pump. its a non pex hose and they use a pex clamp on it, mine was leaking there.

I bough a sharp bite T and SharkBite water valve and a flexible water hose for a faucet and replaced it all. someone else on here had the same trouble.

I replaced the faucets too in my camper and put cutoff valves on them too.

If it had it to do over again i would have got a SharkBite 90 instead of the T and this dual valve would have saved about $12

any time you work on any plumbing in your camper add cutoff valves. it should be law all fixtures come with a cutoff.

If they give you grief for warranty work later. tell them would you rather replace the floor and kitchen cabinets. Our water made the sawdust cabinets swell where they touch the floor and ran to the back of the camper under the stove and refrigerator. so you are only trying to prevent more damage.

They don't use sealant since the fittings usually have cone washer's on them.

Quite surprising that they don't put shut off valves. but I'll have to keep that in mind! I'm glad when we found the leak when we did!

Ahh, that makes sense. It could be that the washer isn't seated right. That's why I always use Teflon tape at home.

Don't worry about voiding the warranty. They have to prove what changes you did affected/cause the need for the warranty repair.

You can tell them it was an emergency field repair as it sprung a leak, and the dealership was unable to repair within a timely manor.

Or don't tell anyone anything about it. Fixing a leak would not even be a noticeable "repair" if something else needed warranty work.

And like others have said, they would have to prove that the work you did directly contributed to the failure you're trying to claim a warranty repair on. So, if you tried to fix the leak, but made it worse, then tried to come back later and claim a warranty repair on your floor, yeah, they'd probably deny that claim.

So, just fix it right, and no one will be the wiser.

Are they willing to extend the warranty to match the length of time you'd have to wait for warranty service? Unlikely! I'd do what you have to so you can enjoy the camping season.

I worked on mine from day 1, modded many things because my mind was made up, it was not going back to the dealer and set there for 6-9 months. No way.

You will likely save yourself a ton of time and aggravation if you just fix it yourself. You will have it done faster and more likely better than if you wait for warranty repair. I do all my own repairs and did so with several items that should have been fixed under warranty but it was way easier to just fix the issues my way...

While you are at it, check for other leaks.

With water in you tank and no hose hooked up, turn on the pump.
After it runs enough to shut off, read a book for a while. Don't turn on any water. (Yes, some of us still read books.)
If the pump comes on for a quick 'bzzz' and then shuts off, probably another leak you haven't found yet.

I fixed most of the early issues on my RV myself for smaller problems, including the water pump, plumbing and some electrical I tried once going the warranty route, they had my RV for 2 months during the prime camping season. Since then I have pretty much done everything myself. I don't know where your pump is leaking, but mine leaked at the front of the pump there is gasket there, crank it down tight with a screw driver. That solved my problems and saved 2 month in the shop. I only took it in one more time for the leveler tank recall and they fixed that in a couple of days. When you own an RV is pays to be handy, or at least give things a try.
