Worth upgrading jackknife sofa?

Hi all, looking for opinions.

I have a 2008 Jayco 28 BHS. It has half slide with a jackknife sofa installed. We find the sofa very uncomfortable to sit on.

Anyone replace with a new one from Recpro or others? Just wondering if it would be any more comfortable than what we have now as it is going to cost me around $1000 CDN or more.

Not really concerned about the sleeping comfort, just the sitting comfort.

The way the slide is setup I cant replace the current sofa with recliners or theatre seating or I would've gone that route.

Also are the new dinette seats worth the upgrade?

I replaced mine with recliners through Jayco as part of my deal. The swap was easy, and I was able to sell my very uncomfortable sofa to offset some of the cost. There are many options that are less costly through traditional furniture stores that will also work.

Definitely was worth my time, effort and money to get rid of the sofa!

Thanks for the reply. My sofa is mounted on a piece of plywood and the slide mechanism is in the the space beneath the plywood so I am basically limited to a replacement jackknife sofa without doing a bunch of construction I dont want to do

Someone on the forum replaced the foam in their jackknife sofa. They used hog pliers to remove the clips. Might be good to find that post and ask how it has held up.

I did make our jackknife sofa a little more comfortable. Not hard to do and takes only a couple of hours total. The hardest part is removing the sofa.

First, I cut and inserted heavy cardboard between the seat foam and the springs to give it a lot more support. Not hard to do and you don't need to remove the cover, just cut the cardboard into 2 pieces to slide it in. Second, I stuffed extra foam batting in the back cushions. The 4 "pillows" that make up the back have zippers on the bottom making it somewhat easy to slide in new foam or quilting batting. Just stuff to the firmness that you want.

The last thing I did was to screw a piece of flat aluminum bar to the top of the sofa to keep the back material from pulling forward and down. It keeps the back cushions in place.

That person was me. Couple years later and still love the upgraded foam. The couch is very comfortable and still looks original.

We had the dealer put in the duel recliners as requirement for purchase on our 33RBTS. Never used the couch as a bed and wished we had recliners in our past units. No regrets. Plus the heat and message are an added benefit. $1000 on a 2008 unit does seem steep unless you plan on holding on to it. The upgraded foam looks like a good option. Go camping one more time and see how much more enjoyable the upgrade would have made the outing to help make your decision!

We replaced the Jac-Knife on our 2008 23B Exp with 8" of firm foam and some bolster cushions. There are only 4 bolts to remove the couch but you have to remove the back cushion so that you can access the rear bolt on each side. We love it for sitting and sleeping.Due to camper's age we're not really concerned about resale value, but you may want to consider it.

I have a 2007 Greyhawk. We removed the booth and sofa, swapped locations where table location now has 2 RecPro power recliners and where the sofa was now has a table and removable chairs. I put 3/4" plywood on top of the slide and covered it with stick-in vinyl wood strips. It took a while to do but we love the change. The RecPro recliners are so comfortable and are now directly across from the TV.
