Wrong Keys?

Brand new JayFlight 28BHBE. It has keyed alike locks for the doors and storage hatches. Keys go in hard on the doors, but VERY hard on the hatches. When pushing/pulling the keys in/out, Im afraid im going to pull the lock housing off. Nothing like what I thought a new lock should be.

Anyone else have issues like this with brand new locks?

Try some graphite powdered lock lube. My new locks were tight like that last year. I sprayed some graphite powder into the locks. It made a huge difference.

along with the graphite drop by your local hardware store, and see if they will buff them for you on the buffing wheel. take the sharp edges off.
always helps. the stiffness is probably more in the locks though, so definitely shoot some graphite in there.

Dry graphite is ok, don't add any wet lubricants

graphite on the locks. I hit my keys with my buffing wheel.

They will eventually smooth out on their own.

X2 on the graphite. You might also try to gently push in on the door next to the lock while turning the key. I also found out that if I put the key in the lock upside down, the lock will turn, not easily, but it will turn.

24 hours in a day, 24 beers in a case. Coincidence? I think not.

Is this new? Typically the hatches are all 751. Didn't know they would key all the locks the same...

I think they started doing it in 2017 on some of the lines. My 2017 Jay Flight 28BHBE's storage doors are keyed alike to the main doors. Only the exterior shower now uses a 751 key...

My 2017 28BHBE's locks are not hard to push the key in or pull out. I would try the graphite that was recommended...

I don't remember where I bought it. Probably a local auto parts store but I use this type of lube.

https://www.amazon.com/AGS-LE5-Lock-Ease/dp/B000CIJUGA

It is still a graphite lube but it is carried in alcohol which then evaporates away pretty quick. Using straight graphite powder works but is a messy job and is hard to get in the locks when they have those doors to keep the elements out.

As far as why they are stiff. Lube will help but keep in mind these are far from precision locks that are mass produced. They simply are not cut that well. Over time they will wear in but it will take a while graphite is the best option for the short term. Buffing the key can help as well if there are burs.

My 25BH has the keyed alike system with everything using the same key except the shower. Mine are stiff but not so bad that I feel like I will break anything.

We did have an issue that I discovered at the PDI where the latch for the lock on the outdoor kitchen was too short and it would just pop open. They replaced that on the spot for me with one longer.

Yes, after decades of 751, Jayco finally started using unique locks on the hatches that match the cabin door.

My keys were extremely difficult at first. Used the spray graphite, now they are just moderately difficult. They are getting better with use though.

Nice. My 2016 has 3 different keys! One for the door, one for the glass slider, and one for storage holds and shower. I wish all mine were keyed alike.

Just crazy they do that! On our previous 2014 we had two different keys. I ended up changing the storage door locks to match the door. There's a few threads on here on it.
