Xantrex 1200 inverter

Help please! We are at a campsite. We are hooked to electricity. We were told by the dealership we would not need the inverter unless we are “dry” camping. They said we could turn it off. If we turn it off or if it goes off on its own, our refrigerator shuts off. What do we do? Don’t want to have to take it in because we are already set up.

Is it shutting down by it's self? It doesn't hurt to leave it on.

Should be able to leave it own, the XANTREX Inverter is the same in our
RV, we have a remote monitor/controller that shows the inverter bypass when connected to shore power.... yes when our inverter goes, the fridge goes too, so
no problems leaving the system on as it has an auto switching feature, at least
ours does...you can also download the XANTREX app and monitor the system that way.

Check the manual, it explains the operation when plugged to shore power...
"The Freedom X operates in AC mode when an AC source (a
generator or utility power) is present at the AC input terminals.
When the AC source is within operating range (meaning the voltage
is, the Freedom X unit bypasses inverter mode and powers the
appliances connected to the unit. See "Transitioning from Battery
Mode to AC Mode" on page 50.
The green status LED lights up to indicate the Freedom X is using
utility (or generator) power."

That’s the problem. When my husband leaves to come home for four days, he’s afraid the inverter will trip and unless we are there to reset it, the refrigerator will be shut off.

If I’m understanding correctly, they’re isn’t currently a problem, but more of a worry of a potential problem. The only time my inverter is off, is when I’m done camping and pulling it back to storage or the reverse on the way home to set up. Even if I don’t turn it on manually, as soon as the trailer is plugged into an AC power source it’s on. I wouldn’t be any more concerned of the inverter shutting down and causing issue while away than I would the converter doing the same. Stuff can always happen, but it’s not too likely. In this case, plugged into shore power, the inverter is not even doing any work. As mentioned above the power is just passing through it.

If you have the 12Volt compressor type refrigerator, it needs the 12 Volts that the inverter supplies in order to operate.

Let me get this straight... you’re saying you are plugged into shore power, and if your inverter is not turned on then your fridge won’t turn on ?
If this is the case then the breaker is off for the fridge. Flip it on.
The inverter is not needed when plugged into shore power. You can leave it on or off.

Or there is a loose wire at the INVERTER. Several have found that the wire was not pushed in tight so you need to remove the cover and check the connections.

Yes. That could be too. I just replaced my original Xm1000 inverter with a Feeedom 2000 and the push in connection didn’t seem to be the friendliest connector to work with.

We need more information. Dealer installed inverter or original equipment? What else is being powered at the same time? Some inverters will not pass through shore power beyond their rating. That means the breaker on the inverter will trip once you sustain greater than 1200 watts even if it is plugged in to shore power. A factory installed system should handle the systems it was designed for with no problem. If it was after market installed to power everything in the camper it will trip out at 1200watts.

As others have mentioned, this may be normal. Question, which model Xantrex 1200 inverter do you have?

I do know that some inverters (such as the AIMS one I have) require it to be turned on all the time, that doesn't mean it is invertering all the time, but for the internal transfer switch to bypass the inverter requires the inverter power switch to be on, which sounds similar to what you are describing. ~CA
