2001 Eagle brake & blinker lights out

I just purchased my first pop up, a 2001 Jayco Eagle 14 S0. We pulled it home with our 2003 Sequioa, which is the first time it pulled anything. My son followed my and noted the right blinker and right brake light were not working. By the time we got home, the left blinker and left brake light were not working, but all other lights were on. Other than changing the light bulbs, any other suggestions as to where to troubleshoot the problem?

Are only the lights on the trailer not working? Maybe check fuses? I have a Tundra and one thing I've learned is not to connect or disconnect with the truck running. Twice I have blown fuses because of this.

Three ideas-
Are the contacts on the connector clean? Try scraping lightly or some contact cleaner?

Do you have a good ground connection between the TV and the trailer? Do not depend on the hitch for the ground connection. There should be a ground wire carried through the connector. You might use a volt meter to check voltages at the connector and at the light fixture. I have spent a lot of time chasing electrical problems that ended up being ground related.

It is also possible that you have a broken wire somewhere.

X2 on the connections....being an older unit (and new to you), check for places where someone may have tried to splice or repair wiring relating to the lights/blinker/brake wiring. A thurough inspection and cleaning of the connector plug plus a dab of dielectric grease will help to make a good connection. Make sure to check the connector on your tow vehicle as well.

Something I bought a few years ago due to some shortages occuring was a 7 way pin tester. They make buzzing sound ones or the LED lights that will show when power is at each connection. They range from 10-25 bucks and IMHO are worth every penny when it comes to checking before hookup and making a quick diagnosis as to what is wrong.

It at least gives you a quick focal point between TT or TV and let's you then pinpoint the problem. A voltage tester will work just as well but I've found to just plug it in before each hookup this is fastest way.

Some electrical cleaner sprayed on both connections sometimes helps. Especially after some winter road grime.

In case you did not know this, you should use the manual override on the controller to check your brake voltage, not the pedal. Pedal will give you your lights but depending on the controller limited or no voltage without movement.

Cleaned the connectors and a little dielectric grease did the job! Thanks for all of the advice! Very much appreciated! Time to go camping!

Buying a low cost multi meter and learning to use it will enable you to trouble shoot any wiring issues. While i'm new to pups I've had my share of light issues on boat trailers and found that the vast majority of the faults were poor grounds.

In 93 we bought a new Coleman Sequoia we seemed to have a light issue evert time we plugged in. We were headed to Maryland and the lights went sour quick. Ater stopping at our second Coleman dealer he hooked our trailer to his truck and every warning buzzer in his truck went off. to make a long post shorter the culprit was a shorted 1157 bulb in the right rear tail light. I also agree check grounds my son has a boat and the lights on it are thorn in my paw.
