2016 pop-up changes

I have noticed that the 2016 1209 models have front mounted winches. Is this a change for jayco? I thought all the jay series had internal lift systems. Also the front storage box is a very boxy, separate box stuck on the front end. Are there any other changes to the 2016 jaycos? Just wondering if it will affect quality, etc.

I answered my own Question, the 2016 Jay Series 1209sc I saw is the same as the 2015 Comet, must be using the Starcraft factiry unit, and slapping a Jayco on it

Actually that winch on the front is the original design which was patented by Wilbur "Jay" Bontrager when he was an engineer at STARCRAFT. He was working there before he and Bertha started JAYCO
That is one reason why they bought STARCRAFT when it went bankrupt.

And yes all the pop-ups are coming out of the same plant.

I have a 1982 Starcraft, and all the lift system is all original, except the winch, I just replaced that. I was wondering if all the starcraft / jaycos have the same intrnal lift rods, or do some use the pulleys like mine, in the lifter posts? It is time for a new camper lol,

The basic operation with the pulleys should be the same since that was how it was patented. Haven't really taken a close look at the actual corner posts in a long time.

As long as they warranty a new pop up lift system for life, I guess I shouldn't worry.

I see lots of small changes in the 2016 jay series. Jayco has done away with there internal lift system, a system they bragged about for years and was only available on their top of the line pop-ups. No more raised cabinet doors, the valance around the inside of the roof is also smaller, same as sport series. The sport series and the jay series are becoming more similar. A sad sign of the times, the pop-up camper is slowly dying. Look what happened to Coleman. People today want more amenity's and easier set-up

We had planned on ordering a 2016 1007UD, but our salesman informed us that Jayco was planning to make changes that we might not appreciate since quality was the ultimate reason why we chose to purchase the Jayco brand. We opted to purchase a new 2015 1007UD and we are thrilled with that decision because we saw the changes in the 2016 at the Milwaukee RV show.

looks like many jayco models are just re-tagged Starcraft campers, might just keep my 1981 Starcraft another few years...at least it is a conversation starter when im camping.
