`92 Cardinal 6 AC to DC convertor
I recently bought a `92 Cardinal 6 sight unseen and knowing that it had a few problems. One of the problems is that it appears that the AC to DC convertor is not working. I am trying to trouble shoot this with my dad over the phone as the camper is in Michigan with him and I am currently in Virginia. He said that when he plugs it in to shore power that the converter runs for about 2 minutes, makes an annoying humming sound, then trips the AC circuit breaker (even with all the DC fuses out). During the time that it is running none of the DC lighting works and doesn't appear to work soley on battery power. Not only that, but it drains the battery in about 2 days without anything on. I figured that the converter is probably bad and draining the battery. Our next step was going to be to take the converter out of the system completely and see if the battery will sustain our DC load. My question is, does anyone have any other tips on troubleshooting this, can I get replacement parts (it appears that the transformer and rectifier are two separate pieces) or is it better to just replace it with a newer converter to feed the DC distro panel? If so, any ideas on what size converter I would need. Dad says he can't find any specs on the original converter.
