98 eagle converter (pop up) and battery cable melted.

Hello,
I just got a Jayco 98 eagle 12. I can't figure out If I have a bad converter. It's a centurion 2000 cs from my understanding it has a bad rep. My outlets work fine when I'm plugged into offshore power. My lights don't work. My fuses are working good so I opened the converter and saw there is a 5a 250 fuse (fast blowing glass) blown in the circuit board. So I replaced that but as soon as I turned it on it blew again. From my understanding these are more or less sacrificial fuses incase something goes wrong. I checked all wires to incase one was exposed and rubbing something and I checked grounded wires too. Previous owner said they ran the lights with a battery but It shouldn't need a battery to run anything if it has a offshore power.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I found an online manual, if you don't have one already.

Update,
I bought a deep cycle battery to run my lights and other things that run on a battery since the previous owner said thats what they did. When I connected my positive to positive and negative to negative the wires started sparking and the negative wire melted. I have since gotten new wires and terminal connectors for my wires. Now I need to know how to make sure my wires are positive and negative(I think they were wrong). Both terminals for the battery post come from just one red wire that runs into the converter. That one wire has some sort of a splicer that makes the negative wire (black). There is no ground wire by the battery but there is a ground wire to the frame underneath the converter (back end of trailer) I assume this would be the ground. Any help on why this happened or how to fix it would be lovely.

The negative cable will be screwed to the frame somewhere along the line. You'll need to trace that one down. I don't have any thoughts on why those wires are made like that, in your pictures. Sorry.
