Thank you!!!

We are nearly through the woods...

Alright so one of my hopefully last questions for dummies.

The cord that you plug into the outlet:

Does it just stay plugged in at all times, during pack up and transport too?

Do you buy a cord that is ready to be wired in, or have to fashion one from 12 gauge wire/a plug? Looking for easiest solutions

What is the tidiest way to run it to the canvas sleeve?

It's kind of funny - now that I've found the outlet there is an extremely obvious second wiring sleeve hanging down directly above it.

And another simple one - do people apply some kind of self levelling sealer around the AC unit on the roof, or simply rely on the gasket?

I have since sold the camper, but rarely does something go wrong with these units. I got it off an older trailer for $75 that had been sitting in a field for years. Brought it home, opened it up to clean any debris in it and plugged it in. worked perfect.
Our popup was a 12ft box, and that AC would cool it no problem even on the hottest days.
The only thing I was concerned about was the extra weight on the roof when the trailer is in the open position, but it handled it ok.

You should not need to use caulk/sealer on the gasket if properly torqued it should not leak. Don't over tighten it. As to the cord from the unit to the sleeve. Is there a hole or slot that will allow you to put it into the support bracket? If not wire tire it along the side. Once you get it installed, leave it plugged in when you raise and lower the top, just besure you don't pinch the cord. Also you are better off just buying a piece of 12/3 cord and the plug at Home Depot or Lowes and make your own. JAYCO or your dealer probably has one available, but at 3 times the cost...

Makes sense!

As to the bracket, no there is no way in I don't believe and the end is capped.

I saw on a video that you shouldn't use a torque wrench to torque the bolts properly because even that might over-tighten it. Thoughts?

Agree. The new Coleman gasket has a tab that tells you when to stop, not sure about Dometic, but the directions are really clear on how far down to tighten it

Perfect, I am planning on getting a Coleman mach 3 plus with heater.

Hopefully it's a newer unit and has clear instructions.

Editing:

Decided on Coleman as it seems to have a better reputation than dometic for reliability, and getting a new unit rather than the used so I have the 2 year warranty. That's worth 200 bucks to me.

I want to jump in and say thanks to everyone, this has been informative as I just purchased a 2017 Jayco Sport 10SD and had the similar questions about installing an A/C unit.

My Load Center has a dual breaker and one of them is labeled A/C, and a yellow wire coming from the back. Would the plug for the A/C be in the same spot? I did not see a labeled outlet like what AirCanuck posted anyone near the benches or under the bench, but I did not look down in the back of the cabinet near the dinette.

That's where I found mine! In a cabinet under the sink. I bet it's in there!!

Speaking of gaskets, just reading through the installation instructions for the Coleman prior to purchase. I came across this:

"If the air conditioner is being installed on a low friction roof
surface such as aluminum, steel or gelcoat fiberglass, it is
advisable to order a spring pad kit, part number 8333-3871 to
add “spring pads” to maintain bolt tension and retard lateral
motion of the air conditioner which could shear the mounting
bolts. "

That wouldn't apply, would it? It's just a normal Jayco pop up roof and I haven't heard of anyone getting this...

No. Your roof is dimpled, not smooth. Never used them on the pop-ups that I installed for friends.

Perfect. Any idea if these optional heat strips you can install in the Mach 3 plus are worth it? Or should we just bring our little space heater if we have electricity anyway?

We recently went camping and the overnight low was 8 degrees C. We found that the furnace kept us warm but it's so loud it kept waking us up!

Installed them in our 01 & 08 MH's and both my daughter and son's Hybrids. They are great chill chasers. Other advantage is you're not loading the other circuits since the a/c is a separate breaker.

That's a good point! Would that be suitable for 8 deg C? (46 deg F)

That's about the limit. When they are incorporated in the HEAT PUMPS they come on about 40 when the HEAT PUMP itself shuts off. Just remember the air will feel cool even though it is warmer than the ambient temp.

Hey Grumpy,

What do you know about the Furrion Chill? A dealer near me recommended it, same price as the Mach 3 plus, he says it runs quieter and is well-liked. Currently doing some googling. Any personal experience?

It's brand new on the market and I "THINK" it is for the ducted system which you don't have.

I can't find anything on ducted or ductless - if it uses an air distribution box does that mean it's ductless, or is that not an indicator

This seems to say it's available for both ductless and ducted
