AC unit and Air Filters

We just finished our 4th trip out yesterday, 13 nights total since we got the pop up. Loving it!

We had the AC freeze up for a bit and blow some ice into the cabin. That was a first, so any tips on how to keep that from happening?

When this happened I thought I might look at the air filter for the ac, and it was super dirty. It appears to just be a bit of foam maybe 2.5 inches across and about 8 inches long.
Can I just rinse it our well and put it back up there? Or like Home AC filters do I need to replace it every so often?
Thanks for the help!

Wash it good, let it dry and reinstall. If you had ac running on low fan that can cause icing too.
