Air conditioning for 2009 Jay Series 1006

How do we go about adding this to the roof? Another fella in the neighborhood has the same trailer with that option.

I called a trailer company nearby and they said nearly $2000 CAD! However he mentioned possible need of installation of braces etc.

The reason we ask... We just spent 4 days camping in a heat wave. In a quick kneejerk I bought a standing unit, put it on the counter beside the sink and ran the two vent lines out a zipper. That's not optimal and involved a lot of gorilla tape and luck. However, having the unit totally spoiled us for having AC - on top of keeping delightfully cool in the evenings our sheets never had that damp feeling. The stand up unit was 12,000 BTU, we were able to get down to about 65 degrees (wouldn't normally of course but nice after the insane heat outside)

So my questions are...

Generally, who tends to be the best folks for this? Our area doesn't seem to have a specific Jayco dealer.

What is the best roof unit to get?

In the photos, are the lines running widthwise the braces he was talking about, already in place around the rear vent?

Thanks to all for any help!!

Brand wise it's really a toss up and yes those are the supports for the a/c. Below are the specs from JAYCO's web site.

Mildew-resistant aluminum ceiling
Non-sliding, 4" deep cushions for dinette with reversible EZ-clean™ vinyl backs
Prep for A/C accommodating all roof-mounted A/C's
Privacy curtains for end-bunks

When you say toss up could you point us in the right direction a little? We are feeling pretty at sea about it and new to trailers.

Do you happen to have a link to those specs?

Thank you for your response!

There are only 2, Coleman or Dometic that I would use. What does the dealer you talked to sell. Since the 12,000 portable worked for you I would go with a 13,500 BTU unit nothing smaller and you don't want to go too big since it would cycle off and on too much.

I found a used one on Craig's List. It was off a newer trailer that had flooded, but not the A/C unit. Easy to install, remove vent and replace with A/C unit. I did use a new seal.

I use Search Tempest to search Craigs List. Search for RV rooftop A/C unit. You might look on eBay also. Good luck

Hey Grumpy,

I've made a separate thread on this, but any opinions on Dometic vs Coleman?

The dealer near me sells both the Dometic 13,500 Brisk Air II and the Coleman Mach 3 Plus (also 13,500) with heater for $1000 CAD. Both matching air distribution boxes are similar costs to each other (~$160 CAD).

Do you have any opinions on one brand vs the other?

My research seems to come up with a LOT more people having issues with reliability with Dometics, but I'm totally unfamiliar with the subject.
