AM antenna for FM/AM radio in 2017 8SD

The FM/AM radio in our 2017 8SD works pretty well on FM BUT not at all on the AM that is needed in the boondocks. The supplied-antenna is a simple wire. Have any of you found a good solution to adding an AM antenna to the radio? The connector is a standard automotive antenna input.

We use the FM band almost exclusive... My antenna is small whip mounted to the outside corner of my POPUP trailer. Very seldom use the AM for anything anymore. back in the day some of those station like XERF Del Rio TX was neat to listen to...

You can see my AM/FM antenna mounted on the rear of my OFF-ROAD Trailer.

Have no trouble whatsoever using the FM just about anywhere we go including OFF-ROAD and BOONDOCKING... I have seen AM/FM whips mounted to the side of the BATWING HDTV antenna setups... In our case this would get my AM/FM antenna up a good 10 feet or so...

If you really want to listen to AM then solder about 75 feet or longer of single wire to the one you have and throw it way up into the tree... Should be easy enough to pull the wire back when you want to leave...

The only down side I can think of might not be a good idea having an long antenna wire like that connected to your radio during a close-by thunder/lightning storm.

If you are a real fanatic for having MUSIC with you then subscribe to SIRIUS RADIO.. I already had SIRIUS radio on my truck radio so I added the plan to be able to listen to SIRIUS through an internet connection... We get all of the SIRIUS RADIO music we want now on our local laptops tablets and computers... I have also seen campers using the portable SIRIUS radio sat antennas around their campers...

Thanks, Roy. Looks like a nice setup but hard to tell from the photo if the antenna is mounted to the box or the top. What antenna did you use ?
If mounted to the top, then the lead in has to be free to move up with the top, right?

Not many folks here in Washington State monitor on simplex.

This is what came with my trailer. Nothing fancy... It is side mounted to the bottom portion of the POPUP trailer. Will also rotate around. The whip section is 14-inches i think.. Has standard car radio plug on it... I have seen something similar on AMAZON...

I guess your monitor on simplex comment is referring to my ham radio. Its not like it used to be for sure... We monitor 146.52Mhz when on the roadways... Comes in handy for us a few times... When i setup at the camp grounds I have HF Ham radio going with my IC-706MKII... I have both Mobile Screwdriver Antenna and OFF CENTER HF wire antenna where i can throw the ends up into some trees. Tunes up great for 40M and 80M bands

Here is my floorplan of my OFF-ROAD POPUP setup showing several Ham Radio features... Kinda hard on my battery bank but I manage to stay off-road for several days playing with my Ham radio and recharging batteires each morning with my 2KW generator running my trailer for about three hours during breakfast...
