Another bungee question

Hey all, We recently purchased an older Jayco Eagle 8 popup camper. Trying to figure out the purpose of a long 1/4 bungee running the length of the street side of the camper. It's terminated on both ends and just lays there.

Previous owner passed away. The canvas slides into a track at the bottom for the full length of the camper. Between that track and the inside of the camper body there is a gap of about an inch or so and the bungee is between the track and the body. Runs full length of the camper and is bolted at both ends. Just lays in the gap. I honestly don't see a purpose, and it is old and deteriorated and doesn't look like it's ever been used.

Sounds like the previous owner tried to just fill the gap. Maybe see if you can take it out and put some weather stripping in there from a big box store. They make tons of different kinds. Maybe check here as well.

Called Jayco and they were extremely helpful and are themselves trying to figure out the purpose of the cord. I will post their response when I receive it.

realizing this post is from a few months ago, but wanted to say that my '93 Eagle 8 SD has the same. It's a length of shock cord type material, and runs the length of the cabinet to the rear side of the entry door, along the rear bunk rail, on the 'outside' edge of that, between rail and canvas.

Someone on one forum or another, I can't recall where it was now, had speculated that it had something to do with stowing the interior curtains, but I have not found anything in my manual to back that up. My cord has a couple of the curtain pins loosely slipped over the length of it. But as the Original poster, it does not appear to have been connected to anything. Curtains were MIA when I acquired this camper a few years ago.

Safe to say that I have never used the cord for anything in the past few years that we have been camping in the trailer.

I also have a '93 Eagle 8SD, and also have the same cord. I also don't see a use for it!

Bungee, shock cord.

We've been camping many times in the Jayco and I still do not see a use for the cord. I removed it, Could it have been a spare for the bunk beds? No, they were different lengths. Jayco said they have no idea. I don't think a company would spend a few bucks for each unit if they had no plans for the cord. If anyone figures it out let me know.

Hi! We just picked up a 1995 Eagle 8 SD and noticed this bungee too. Looked in the manual and looks like it is supposed to hold the canvas in when in travel position. the pics are not super helpful and not sure exactly how to the go in?

I bought new a ‘95 12ud trailer and it had that bungee. According to that manual manual shot you show, it seems to hold the tent fabric away from the vents that exhaust the hot air if you run the fridge on propane while you drive. The possibility of that vent getting blocked is exactly why I never drove with the fridge on propane. But, I am now working on a Jayco 1982 Featherlite 4 and it has that bungee too but there is no fridge on that side and in fact it has an ice box by the door. Can’t imagine that a worker at the factory would waste their time putting that bungee on when there is no fridge there or vents.

I'm not sure how i feel about cruising along running the fridge off propane while you travel. I have the bungie in the '95 Eagle 8 but I don't have a fridge, so i'm thinking the countertop was just mass produced in one corner of the factory and they just threw the bungie on there regardless of the model it was eventually going to be put on.

I still have yet to find the loops it's supposed to be attached to. Thought I'd add a pic in case others are wondering about this mystery bungie.

I read somewhere this bungee is to be used to hold back the curtains when using the stove inside. The concern is a breeze though the camper could blow the curtains into the flames, otherwise.
