Anyone have ways to lock the jack crank?

Hey everyone.

We recently purchased a Jayco 1208 (2012) and took our first weekend trip this weekend. Loved it!

My question is about the jack crank. My 3 year old loves to play with it and on a few occasions he's actually been able to raise the support off the ground when the legs are down. I've searched for ways to lock the crank but haven't found any ideas. Anyone here have this problem and how did you solve it?

Thanks for the ideas.

How about just using a strap or piece of cord and tie the handle off to the frame?

Welcome to the forum!

Brace yourself for the non-politically correct response!!

Use the strap on the kids backside and teach him to keep his paws off things he hadn't ought to be messing with. Next time it might be something that could kill him.

We home-proofed our kids by teaching them what they were allowed to touch or not to touch early on and they all survived.

In Canada that is against the law.

Punishment doesn't have to physical... It just has to work, and every child has some "Button" you can push to cause the behavior change. For my sons, it was standing in the corner at attention (Oops, there's the Army sergeant in me getting out) with their foreheads against the corner so all they could see was the corner. Anyone's eyes caught looking anywhere but at the corner... another five minutes added to the sentence.

Your much to kind, I would hot wire it and nip it in the bud! Next time he'll give it plenty space on the walk around.

Its been a long time since I had a PUP so please correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the crank handle removable? I always removed mine and stowed it because I was more worried about random rug rats milling around and fooling with it.

My 3 year old knows not to touch it unless he is "helping daddy" setting up or tearing down. Worked when he was 2 and now 3. No issues

On my Coleman, I wrapped a bungee cord around the crank to hold it against the shaft.

See... you found that button I was talking about. Interestingly, over time, I've discovered that adults have them too! However, they're harder to find.
