Battery power for Jayco 1006

Hi, I own a 92 jayco 1006. I'm wondering if the battery can power my heater in any way. I was always told that you can only use electricity with the heater. Battery would not work in lieu of electric. Anyone know if that's true? Thanks for your input.

Lots of help in getting a good background on your furnace and other parts of your rv here. Use the search engine above.
Your furnace is a propane furnace like a house furnace. It uses the 12 volts from your battery to power the fan. Some also have an electric pilot light but most smaller ones don't. So you need a battery big enough to run that fan which sucks up several amps an hour if you are in cold weather and use it a lot. If you are at a site with electricity the power would be supplied by the 110 volt to 12 volt converter. But then you could use an electric heater anyway and save the expensive LP gas and noise of the furnace running.

Last, if you are staying several nights then even more battery power would be needed, a generator to recharge them and or solar panels to recharge your battery(s).

Think over how you plan to camp, time of year, need for heat, etc. then research how much in battery power and the option or a generator or solar to recharge them if needed.

I installed a 19K BTU furnace in my 1207, the battery would power the fan and the furnace worked. However, the fan moved air significantly better when I used the 2500W generator. I would plug in a battery charger overnight to recharge the battery while the generator ran. As mentioned the fan pulls a lot of amps and will pull the battery down quickly.
