Can't lower '98 Eagle 10UD

I recently bought a '98 Jayco Eagle 10UD camper. Overall it’s in great shape and has brand new canvas. This is not my first pop-up camper, I had an even older Jayco 8 for years, and briefly a larger Coleman after that. We wanted to get back into camping and I always regretted selling that first Jayco.

The camper was set up when I looked at it, looked great for its age etc. The seller and I lowered the roof and packed it up together with no issues, I was familiar with the process so didn't really even think much about the details. All went smoothly.

I was busy at work after I got home so didn't get around to popping it back up until this weekend, and that all went pretty well. After measuring beds for linens and seeing what kind of storage we have to get things ready for next year I got it all ready to pack back up and....I can't lower the roof!

Now as I recall from my old Jayco, all you have to do to disengage the crank and lower the roof back down is crank up/clockwise a little until it releases, then lower it down carefully. I was very careful not to "over pop" when I set it up so I had a little room to go up to disengage the crank, but it won't release. Now I've ended up raising another 4 clicks trying to release it and can't go any higher. Anyone have any ideas?

Of course now that its popped up I can't take it anywhere to have it looked at, and I live in a not so populated area so not sure I can even get anyone to come out here. I'm reasonably handy but have no experience with these lift systems. Is there any way to access the little spring latch that is keeping the mechanism from releasing? I'd be content at this point to just get it packed up for the winter and deal with it next Spring, I live in the PNW so won't be using it until next June.
TIA!

I thought the release was an 1/8 of a turn or so upward and then down. You relly won't feel the release and it will be a little snug going down.

You can also contact pop up parts for some guidance...

That was my recollection as well, slight turn and then a release. But I've tried 4 times now, going up a click each time with no releases. I can't go up any higher, already the door no longer snaps into place (I had to set it back up when I could not collapse it as it may rain).

I will try popupparts, thanks!
