Maybe a couple issues. First make sure that your outside ends are not too far under the panel, meaning line up the Velcro just to the strip, not any tighter. Second check to see if the extension of your pole is out too much. There should be a notch too lessen the length.

I've never owned a Jayco popup or hybrid, but had two Coleman popups. I found the easiest way to set up the bed ends were put the prop rods in place, pull the tenting intp place and attach the bungees beneath the bed, then use the center ridge pole to push the end hoop into place and secure the inner ridge pole end in place. Otherwise, it was a fight!

We always have the bed's shepherd's hook at its shortest length. Even then it's sometimes a grunt-job to get it in place, but usually just fine. We've never tried it with the hook arm fully extended.

What's the temperature outside? Believe it or not that makes a huge difference.

Yes, the canvas shrinks. We used to do what Scoutr2 said when we had our '93 Jayco pup. In fact the dealer told us to do it that way because of the shrinkage.

All you can really do is push that shepherds pole until it can snap in place.

The guy a sold our pup to didn't like that so he cut a couple of inches off the end.

I've also noticed that the roof height can have an effect on attaching the canvas correctly as well, i.e. if the roof is too high, the canvas won't attach correctly.
