Cardboard?

Well, not exactly cardboard. It’s like a stiff cardboard at the rear of the camper where the taillights are. Basically it forms the shape of the rear of the camper to keep the aluminum from bowing in and out. Does anyone know what this is called? Hopefully I can source it from Home Depot.

I am replacing all of the rotten wood at the rear of my 1006. I suppose I could have looked while I was at HD tonight, but that’s the one thing I forgot.

Is the color brown, like a thin Masonite?

Yes it is brown. Not quite sure what Masonite is, though.

Masonite (invented by William Mason, but who cares!) is a hardboard made from steam-and-pressure molded wood fibers. It comes in various thicknesses.
Home Depot, Lowes, or a good size hardware store will have it.

The thinner sheets will bend, as long as it's not radical.

Probably Luan or masonite which is a thin sheet that can be found in plywood section of HD or Lowes

It's a special fiber board type material. I replaced mine with 1/2" plywood when I re-built my rear end.

That's some nice work! I wish I could tear the whole thing down, but not quite ready for that. I may do it next year.

I goofed on my rebuild. I didn't use a wide enough piece to catch the top bolts of the spare tire carrier.

I am just going to do without the cardboard.

I removed the spare tire carrier altogether and keep my spare tire in the garage to avoid dry rot. I throw it in my TV when I travel. I do the same thing with my utility trailers. I covered the two holes in the sheet metal by installing the front license plate bracket from my Xterra and used it for the license plate holder instead of the left brake light frame. I had to run a wire to it for the license plate light.
